Kissimmee has lots of manatees in February if one for whatever reason wanted a break from besbol.

I'm hoping for Kissimmee.  In any case after 5-6 years of speculation we should have an answer soon because if they are moving into a new facility for 2014 they'll need to start preparing now.

Thanks to the Astros, 21 of about 30 spring training games are now known (I'm not sure of the total number of games this year due to the impact of the World Baseball Classic). For me I get the first game I can circle, the 3/25 game in Kissimmee. Can't wait to start watching StubHub for some set your beer down on the dugout seats.

As usual the Nats are among the last teams to announce their schedule.

Known schedule to date:
Sat. Feb 23 at Mets
Sun. Feb 24 vs Marlins
Tue. Feb. 26 at Braves
Fri. Mar. 1 at Braves 6 PM
Sat. Mar. 2 at Mets
Sun. Mar. 3 vs Cards
Tue. Mar. 5 vs Astros
Thur. Mar. 7 at Astros
Fri. Mar. 8 vs Cards
Sat. Mar. 9 at Marlins
Sun. Mar. 10 at Tigers
Wed. Mar. 13 at Astros
Thur. Mar. 14 vs Astros
Fri. Mar. 15 at Cards
Sat. Mar. 16 vs Astros
Sun. Mar. 17 at Tigers
Thr. Mar. 21 at Braves 6 PM
Fri. Mar. 22 vs Tigers
Sat. Mar. 23 at Mets
Sun. Mar. 24 vs Braves
Mon. Mar. 25 at Astros

Has anyone heard of a Nats exhibition game at Nats Park on Friday the 29th of March?  It makes sense with the Grapefruit league having ended and the regular season not yet begun at that point, the WBC is causing some strange scheduling next spring, usually the players have virtually no time to pack up their stuff in Florida before moving back up to DC and immediately starting the season, it looks like they are going to have an unheard of free weekend.

I won't be back yet in any case so I'm not sure why I care, but please tell me that it's not going to be the stinking Red Sox coming back to Nats Park for the exhibition.  Of course I'll be kicking myself for missing out if they have the minor league all stars playing the major league squad as I've been calling for.

The article linked below contains four and a half pages about the financial mess that Lee County has created for itself by funding the Red Sox and Twins ballparks, the last half page covers the impact on the Nats, they asked the Lerner family to contribute to the ballpark fund, hahahahahaha...

The big impact of this is that when other Florida cities and counties read this article they are going to be a lot more reluctant to gift the Nats a new park.  Which is why I still see the most likely outcome being that the Nats end up sharing a park, either with the Astros in Kissimmee or with the Mets in Port St. Lucie.  In any case, if the Nats are moving in 2014, they're going to need to strike a deal real soon, the Nats beat writers all mentioned that this will be their last spring in Viera but I'm not so sure.

Quote
County officials had hoped to strike a deal that would have taken the Washington Nationals from Brevard County, but Commissioner John Manning didn’t seem optimistic about that possibility when he addressed the TDC earlier this month.

“When the Washington National’s proposal came in, the dollar amount was way up here and we didn’t have the capacity in (tourist taxes) at that time to really consider moving forward, unless there was some significant negotiations and changes in those numbers,” Manning said at the Nov. 16 meeting.

When Manning met with the Nationals, he suggested the team, city and county “all put skin in the game together,” he told the TDC.

“Well that didn’t happen,” he said.

Kasten tried to make that deal years ago and Disney would like a second team, but for some reason I haven't read a rumor of such a move in the past five years. Great location, I'm just not a big fan of the park, worst beer selection in the Grapefruit league parks I've seen.

I agree when it comes to division teams but not in general. Sharing facilities means more chances for our hitters and fielders to face unfriendly competition on a daily basis.

I also wonder if any team shares a facility with another team from its division.  You might not like the location, but you would think that Lee County would have made either Hammonds or Jet Blue capable of having 2 teams and would just redevelop City of Palms.

Actually, with the Lerners being real estate people, maybe if the county gave them city of palms's land, they'd be willing to kick in to become a second tenant at one of the other parks.

City of Palms is in a slum so the development rights aren't worth much. The city has been desperately looking for alternative uses for the ballpark with no luck, they're stuck, still making payments and paying for maintenance for an empty park. The tax payers must be so thrilled with their elected officials.
