I hope we don't get Bourn or anything like that. I'd prefer to roll with the same OF and wait until Goodwin's ready for the majors, which by a lot of accounts, sounds like it isn't too far off.

new prediction:
- LaRoche walks
- Zimm moves to 1st
- Rendon breaks camp with the team at 3rd
- Morse is dealt for a reliever or SP prospect
- We sign Bourn to a 4 year deal
- We sign Greinke to a 4 year deal as well

Next year we open with:.
1. Bourn
2. Werth
3. Zimm
4. Harper
5. Desmond
6. Espinosa
7. Ramos
8. Espinosa

with a rotation of Strasburg/Gio/JZ/RD, and Greinke

Add a quality LH arm to the pen and maybe one more vet (Masdon?) and we're golden.

I'm guessing that you want Rendon batting 6th?

There is NO WAY we start the season with both ALR and Morse not on the team.

Do you thinh Rizzzo is stupid enough to pencil in Rendon to start as he is a health and development question?

Morse will garner more in a trade than you are suggesting.

Rizzo gave away the "Hammer" and he won't make the same mistake twice. I also read where some consider Morse a rental. What would prevrent us from re-signing him if Goodwin is not ready?Especially if he continues to rake.

LaRoche is all but gone, Rizzo has allowed him to test the market, which either means that he'll get a big offer elsewhere or that by the time the market drops we'll have moved on.

I agree about Rendon not being ready quite yet, and Zimmm isn't moving from third for at least another year or two, so either Morse or Moore start at first.  We can't have another season of Morse in the OF and with only a year left under contract chances are we see what we can get back in a trade.

Allowing LaRoche to leave and trading Morse only makes sense if we use the money saved to sign a super-star outfielder, which is a needed move, Goodwin is very promising but not a sure bet major leaguer and he's still at least a year away.  The time to wait for guys to develop has passed.

Another move that's 50/50 based on who is available is 2nd base.  Plenty of room for improvement but not a disaster if we stand pat.

So this team enters next season with two (maybe three) new starting position players and one new starting pitcher, hardly blowing up the team as was mentioned below, should be enough to not only make us the best team in baseball but to blow teams out and roll into the playoffs.

does anyone understand why MLB network is having hot stove in the morning this offseason?  I don't know who will be able to watch it from 9-11 on weekdays.  I loved watching hotstove and I'm a little peeved about this.

i checked and they are rebroadcasting 1 hour of the 2 hour show at 4 in the afternoon.

Also, it looks like unlike in previous offseasons, mlb network will keep running mlb tonight throughout the offseason and that will be the evening news show after intentional talk and clubhouse confidential.  So it looks like we will still be getting our coverage!

I would think that trading for a player with one year left of team control  is a rental.  I don't believe that ALR was a rental in 2012? Every player with one year left would be considered a rental by pour definition.

I think it would be fun to battle the Marlins and the Mets for the cellar. What angst.

That second Espinosa should have been "Rendon"

I don't "hope" that this will happen, but regardless of whether or not we re-sign LaRoche, I wouldn't be surprised to see us move Morse.

we aren't going to be battling for the cellar with a starting rotation that replaces Jackson with Grienke and an improved bullpen.

You can replace Rizzo with "any GM" and remove "right now".

If they really want to get aggressive with a prospect, it might be Goodwin rather than Rendon.  Maybe, like they did with Harper, they bring him up a month or two into the season.  They jsut live with some combination of Morse/Moore/Bernadina/Corey Brown until they bring up Goodwin.

Would have to be some injuries for that to happen. As well as some real offensive drop off. Remember, Moore and Harper got called up because LF was OPSing under .700

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/wp/2012/11/11/sean-burnetts-market-takes-shape/

Looks like for the level of competition for his/affeldt's services, Burnett will be 5m per even for home team discount.

Sorry if already posted, just came across it this am.

ps. most of the chatter on the prior page revolved around 2 vs 3 vs 4 years. I think the 4 years thing is someone not in the market for a lefty throwing gas on the market for lefties.

the article and history, as pointed out by several on the prior page, supports max of 3.

I didn't feel like making a new thread for this, so I decided to post it here, was wondering if anyone here could help. If this should be moved elsewhere, let me know and I can delete this and post elsewhere.

I'm doing a project for one of my classes to visualize some data on a topic and decided to do it on some very basic stats from Nationals batters this season. One of the stats I'm trying to gather is how much money all the players to have made a PA during the 2012 season made for that season. I've got a lot of the numbers from http://www.baseball-reference.com, but I'm missing the number for a couple players. I also checked Yahoo! and ESPN but had similar difficulty finding it.

Does anyone know of any sources I might not have looked at that might have more complete salary info? The specific players I still need are Tyler Moore, Jhonatan Solano, Sandy Leon, Corey Brown, Carlos Maldonado, Eury Perez, and Zach Duke. I looked on the Nationals site and their minor affiliates and unless I glanced over it, it wasn't there either.

Obviously they're not making Ryan Zimmerman money, and if I can't get it I can just make an estimate, but I'd like the actual numbers if at all possible. Thanks in advance for anyone who might have some tips.

Back on topic, I thought Burnett was great last season and want him back, but that price tag is probably too much. Would like to see Duke in the BP next season too.
