enough w/ HS analogies.

Next time i'll use boardrooms and business partners, you'll still like the guy, and I still won't.

I don't think he is worth the money, and we can't count on the fact that his contract would not stand in the way of extending a home grown.

I'm quite confident that Geinke will underperform his contract

Spite is always a good way to run your personal life, as well as a major league baseball franchise.

see, that's how you make someone feel stupid  :-[

When you like a chic, and she ignores you, then you sprout a foot over the summer and lose the acne and glasses and she wants to talk to you now, you don't give in.

Yeah you do. Then you score and everyone gives you high fives about how you did it.

Yeah pretty sure the whole point of sprouting a foot, losing the acne and glasses, is so you CAN get the hot chick

Just saying ...

So - Nick Swisher for first base.  Has that horse been beaten to death already?  He's only about a year younger than LaRoche and his defense is only so-so.  But he gets on base more and I prefer his bat, even though the numbers are pretty close.  Would probably take something like 4 years and 60 mil to sign him.

Why sign Swisher when you can get LaRoche for cheaper and less years?

Scott Boras believes the Nats should try to improve their bullpen. In a related story, his client Ryan Madson, a closer, is a free agent.

Scott Boras said the #Nats have a "diamond full of cherry blossoms." Also said they have a potential Top 15 player at all 8 positions.

I don't care what people say, there is some connection between boras and the nats that no other team has with any agent.

Boras is meeting Ted Lerner again this weekend, too.

1:25pm: Alderson acknowledged the trade talks and said he doesn't expect them to accelerate during the GM Meetings according to Martino, who heard from other executives that talks are just preliminary (Twitter link). Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports (on Twitter) that the Mets seek outfield and catcher help in a deal. They still haven't ruled out an extension either.

11:51am: Andy Martino of The New York Daily News says there is still "healthy internal debate" about Dickey within the organization and that nothing is final (Twitter links). They could look to act quickly if progress towards a contract extension is made, however.

11:34am: The Mets are showing little interest in signing R.A. Dickey to an extension and are discussing the knuckleballer in trades, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). Earlier this morning Joel Sherman of The New York Post reported that there is still a significant gap in contract talks, so the team started to gauge trade interest.

I suspect they won't get the best value for Dickey. Better off keeping him.

It's because we have enormously rich owners and have shown an interest in a large number of Boras clients.

Anibal wants six years, $90 million. Perhaps an overpay for him, but when one considers his age, the lack of really good alternatives besides Greinke, and the Dodgers' interest in him, he'll probably get close to that.

I thought this board would be more interested in Bourn - I definitely am, but not at 100m

DBacks looking for a 3B/SS for Upton, seems like a logical fit we should at least pursue a bit.

I don't care about the dollar amount (it's not my money); it's the years that concern me. It would essentially be another Werth deal if not worse as all of Bourn's value comes from his speed which is typically one of the first things to deteriorate as a player ages.

And I want to wake up and have Matthew McConaughey's abs.  Too bad neither of us is getting what we want.  Boo.

Pursue no free agents outside of LaRoche.  Wait to see who gets injured in the first half, reevaluate needs near the trade deadline and act accordingly.

Do we live with Lannan then?

Yes.  Lannan is a more then acceptable #5.  If one of 1-4 goes down for the year, then we get someone else through trade.

I think more people would be had we not seen Harper turn into a very good CF and the Werth-Harper combo at the top of the lineup be as good as it was. But both of those things are true, so the need for Bourn is less than it was thought to be back in the middle of the season.
