LAC still lives on (2013 roster targets)
« Topic Start: October 10, 2012, 04:09:50 PM »
Go get Greinke, Hamilton and a 2B that can play.  Don't be cheap in the offseason like usual.

LOL

The same Hamilton that gagged like a dog down the stretch and got booed off his own field?

Greinke, the guy who couldn't pitch his 200 million dollar payroll team into the post-season?

Yeah, no thanks

Good post though

I'd probably prefer Haren and Bourn, but yeah.

How much would it cost to clone Strasburg?

Haren's a better buy than Greinke at this point. Get Haren.
Hamilton's going to age terribly. In a couple years he'll be putrid. No discipline, no eye. Avoid like the plague.
Sign Haren and a left fielder. Trade Morse for a reliever, extend LaRoche at 1B.

Do clones inherit the wussy genes where they have to rest during the most important stretch of the season?

I'd still go after Bourn and figure out who will play LF.  If you can have Bourn and Werth at the top of your lineup, that's nearly 10 pitches to start the game every single time and that's before you get to Zim and Haper and LaRoche or whomever they chose to go with.

I don't know. Sure, Bourn gets steals, but Werth is a better leadoff hitter, plain and simple. Sees more pitches, has more patience, gets on base more, has a better contact tool.

So put Bourn at 2.  He's patient at the plate, gets on base, and is a solid defensive outfielder.  Not much of an arm, granted, but perhaps they could have him in LF and keep Harper in CF.  Just saying that I think he'd be more useful than Hamilton would.  I think Hamilton comes with a pretty big "Buyer Beware" tag with how things played out down the stretch, plus I think he'll got bigger albatross potential than Werth does by the time his contract is up.

Call me crazy, but what about going La Russa on the lineup and putting Bourn at 9? Is there research into whether batting the pitcher eighth is a significant help? Hamilton has a whole armada of red flags.

I don't see Davey doing that.  If you go Werth, Bourn, Zim, Harper, LaRoche in whatever order you like to start a game, that's going to be murder on a starting pitcher.  not an easy out in the bunch and they all are fairly patient hitters with perhaps the exception of Harper (though I think you'll see that improve), you're going to see a pitch count jump in a hurry and get to feast on a lot of bullpens.  Hamilton is one of the least patient hitters in the game.  Very anti-Rizzo, but when he's locked in he's the toughest out in baseball.  Someone's going to pay for that, I just don't see it being the Nats.

Riggs did that last year before he quit and it was a big factor in some of the wins.
