Looking at the replay, the only time Wieters came close to tagging Ichiro was on the initial attempt when Ichiro went by him.  When they both came back to the plate, Wieters was not on top of the side closest to the mound, which is where Ichiro tagged the plate.

BTW - isn't there a rule that a fielder cannot cover an entire base or the plate?  doesn't some of it have to be available to the runner?  you can block it, but you can't just have a player just use his girth to completely cover it.

As long as he had the ball in his possession I don't believe he violated any rule.

Dan Duquette is a solid GM

I'd be happy for him if I didn't hate that franchise so much - I wish he had gone to Kansas City or something

It's like the Orioles have a team full of Chad Tracy's plus Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, and a 20 year old Machado.  They have a pitch-to-contact closer and a bunch of guys that nobody wanted as their starting rotation - WTF.

The Reds announcers are absolutely dreadful.  They just spent five minutes talking about their recent visit to a renovated Kroger in Covington.  :hang:

AM-980 has just switched over to Reds-Giants following conclusion of 'Sports Reporters' - score level at 1, bottom of 4th.

That's old school.   Bob Prince (Pirates) used to talk about birthdays and anniversaries during 9th inning rallies.   Used to piss me off.

Kroger is based in Cincinnati - they're probably a long-time major sponsor.

I'll have to agree it still sounds odd though.

Right after they spend 10 minutes talking about signing cans of Skyline Chili at a Kentucky Krogers, they did discuss a lady turning 100 that wanted to see Joey Votto hit a homerun in the WS.  Right after that George "Kill Whitey" Bell did a mumbled commercial about handguns or turpentine or some horsecrap.

Yeah, I don't get it either, which is why I keep calling them the luckiest team ever.

If the blOs win the WS I'll do that, assuming you provide the Eddie Murray jersey.

I haven't been paying that close attention, do all the teams have commercials like the Nats one?  That seems to get a lot of airtime.
