With Kershaw and Dickey both playing for non-playoff teams, you wonder if gio might sneak through based on win total and other traditional votes?

The traditional votes favor Dickey by a wide margin. More IP, K's and a better ERA. A 20-6 record on a team 14 games below .500 > 21-8 on a team 34 games above. Gio benefited from better run support. Gio appearss to be favored by fWAR while Dickey by WARP. I think the 30+ innings difference will give it to Dickey.

as usual, you are probably right. It's just when you have two pitchers from non-playoff teams and one from a team with the best record, I'm thinking there's a potential for some voters to give the edge to the guy whose team won more.  Maybe that is more MVP thinking.

I think so, the old 'how valuable can you be if your team doesnt make the playoffs' doesnt really apply to the cy young

CY Young always seemed like a "best pitcher" award to me.  MVP always seemed like... something else that is difficult to define...

I think Dickey gets the Cy Young. Usually when a strong consensus tends to form, round the All-Star break or thereabouts, favouring a particular player for a major award - as it was this year with Dickey (remember the earlier half of the season when he was practically unhittable) - that player would pretty much have to go off the rails the rest of the way to lose that favoured status.

I think it's some kind of formula. Could be wrong about that, though.

Hells yeah. I don't think anyone thought he'd be anything as a hitter.

Funny - those two were up for GG as well. So now we have had 2 GG/SS same season winners - RZ and ALR.

I believe he was good in college. 3/10 silver sluggers is badass!
