Why would he want to go to a hell hole like houston when he had a strong chance at being the nats manager in a year or two?

Because there is no guarantee when or if he'd get the job

I heard he lives in Houston too.

Well that sucks for us, but congrats to Bo.  He'll be missed.

I think the Astros are going for a complete rebranding with their move to the AL, so that's exciting for him.  Brutal division though.

Saw an account that the Astros moved fast because they sensed the Marlins were going to go after him too.

Yep. Ozzie has yakked his way out of baseball. No one will want to hire that douche to manage their team. He can only ride the 2005 WS ring for so long.

Congrats to Bo. Still hate they hired him in-season. Why is he sticking around for the rest of the year knowing he has another job waiting for him? What's in it for him?

Congrats Bo

Best of luck to you - hopefully they'll give you the resources and the patience you'll need to succeed.

Will always love the "Bo Knows #Natitude Night" against the Cubs

Porter not in Houston for announcement of his hiring. Begs question: Why didn't #Astros just wait to announce til after #Nats season ends?

Rizzo is pure class:

Quote
He has been invaluable to us and our drive toward our first postseason. Despite his obvious value, we allowed and encouraged Bo to meet with his hometown Houston Astros to pursue his dream to manage in the major leagues.  He is smart, talented and as fiery a competitor as there is in the game today. Bo will always be a member of the Nationals family and we wish him every success with the Astros.

If he does ok in Houston, no reason he won't still be in the mix when Davey steps down.

It's his hometown, if that means anything.

A managing career has to start somewhere...they can't all start out on contenders.

Also, it's not like there are a ton of these jobs just waiting to be taken.  When one opens up, and they offer it to you, you take it.

This.  If he looks good in Houston, we can just hire him back once Davey retires (I imagine it won't be hard to do).  On the other side, if he ends up sucking then we dodged a bullet, and we then hire Knorr.

I wouldn't say it's that cut and dry.  His record the next couple of years isn't going to be good.  He's not going to have much talent and he's going to be in a pretty tough division.  If he does well down there, and they can give him some talent, I don't think it will be as simple as just hiring him back, especially considering that Houston is also his home.

Man sucks to see him go but happy for him at the same time.  Rizzo said it best.  He will always be a part of the Nationals family.  When Bo came in last year the difference in the way we ran the bases was immediately apparent and we never lost that aggression.  Hopefully in the absence of Porter we maintain that.  I was hoping he would be the successor to Davey Johnson but he deserves this job.  Good luck Bo.  Hopefully we can give you a World Series ring for a little extra credibility in the newest American League team's clubhouse.
