ladies and gentlemen, marvin hudson.

Would be interesting to use the data from game day to see how accurate the umps are, which ones have most inconsistent zone, etc. If MLB isn't doing this, they should be.

I am somewhat concerned about Storen and Clip. Clip looks ragged and Storen seems hittable every other game. Not the sharpness that I would like to see starting the play-offs.

By my arithmetic, this win puts the Nats at 93 wins against 60 losses, 5 games ahead of the Braves who are also 5 games from being eliminated from the NL East race. This is a good spot.

It also puts the team ahead of the World Champion 1924 Nats, who went 92 - 62, but behind the 1925 AL pennant team, which finished 96 - 55.

A great win at the ballpark, amid great weather, with great concessions (the in-stand vendor with Heineken/Stella/Amstel came by my seat four times)...

...short of the Nats winning the World Series, does it get any better than this?

We're starting to get into the range where teams are running out of games.  Looking like the top 3 squads are out of range at this point.

Year   W   L   win %
1933   99   53   .651
1994   74   40   .649
1925   96   55   .636
2012   93   60   .608
1979   93   60   .608
1924   90   61   .596
1993   87   65   .572

Yesterday's win was the 93rd - only three prior Washington clubs won more in regular season:

99 - 1933 [pennant winner]
96 - 1925 [pennant winner]
94 - 1930
93 - 1932, 2012
92 - 1924 [World Series winner], 1931
91 - 1912
90 - 1913
87 - 1945
86 - 1969
