And more importantly, if he wins a World Series here, he's worthy of being our first human-looking statue!

Today's not the day to take this view, but honestly, I think he needs another WS win.  Sparky got in because he managed the Big Red Machine and then another mini-dynasty with the mid-80s Tigers.

The big pluses for Davey's case:  Second highest win% of those managers not in the Hall; solid record as a player which counts too. Another big thing in his favor is that he compares favorably to Whitey Herzog, who's in already.

The big minuses:  "Only" one WS win, relatively few years (and thus, overall wins) as a manager.

I think Davey's in line behind Cox and La Russa and maybe Torre and ahead of the likes of Piniella and Leyland.  If we end up being the 2012-2017 dynasty we want to be and manage to win a series or even two and Davey is the manager for all that, then I think he's in.  But as he sits right now, borderline, to no - a lot fewer managers get in than everyday players.  Of course, as much as he says he doesn't want it, winning Manager of the Year this year would help, too.

Maybe not a world series win, but another pennant.  A world series win, an LCS win, one or two LDS wins, probably makes a better case for him.

The big red machine was a more dominant team than any Davy has managed.  So Davy deserves more accolades than Sparky

The case for:
.564 career winning percentage (9th among those who have managed at least 2000 games)
1997 MoY (Could win again this year)
1279 wins (34th all time, should be 31st by the end of the season).
1 world series championship
1 pennant
6 trips to the playoffs in 12 years

For comparison, Sparky Anderson was the last manager inducted.  A .545 winning percentage, 3 world series titles and two NL pennants.
