Yes.  Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

It's time for Drew to come back

Too bad for Clip tonight, that bunt and the passed ball were not his fault.

Meh - I like Clip better in the 8th inning anyway

 :icon_question:

We're not going to need a closer in the playoffs. We're going to start scoring runs in heaps and will be ahead by 5 or 6 runs until we secure the pennant.

Maybe tonights performance...on the heels of Tyler's Wednesday nightcap failure...will open his eyes.

Damned shame...

He almost blew the early game too....

Apparently me pointing out correctly that Clippard has proven to be an above average MLB closer now makes me the one to blame for all his struggles.

But really? Does it matter what ASSCLOWN says? To anyone at all but me? I mean it seems everyone else has figured out that he's so simple minded that he's too easy a target.

Clippard's one of the big reasons the Nats are where they are today. He may be wearing down a bit - he's pitched an assload the last couple of years and Drew is fresh.

No shame in Clip moving back to his old role

What are the chances that Davey rests Clip the next few games?  He is getting hit hard and could probably use the rest even if he doesn't have shoulder fatigue.

Clip has stunk all second half. He's fourth or fifth on the bullpen pecking order.

Zuckerman:

Quote
Clippard: "I'm searching right now. I'm not too worried about it. I'm still confident as heck. It hurt tonight, I'm not going to lie to you.

Didn't he say the exact same thing after the Dodger game?

It's time to make the change. I would rather get it out of the way now, as opposed to doing it in the middle of a playoff series.

Drew should be the closer.

I'm a little worried about the rest of the bullpen.  Even Drew will have his ups and downs since he's still probably not all the way back to 100% after the surgery.

Davey has pitched his starters only about 6 innings per game...about the fewest innings of any rotation. That seems to be by plan. I guess the other side is that the bullpen works harder.

By this time last year, Davey had Tom Milone and Brad Peacock starting. Similar thing probably won't happen with CMW and Zach Duke unless everything is clinched.

"Davey wanted to get Clippard work given recent struggles. Wants to go with Storen for now. But Clippard has thrown well vs. LHH in Philly. "

Can we infer that Drew is the closer now?

Yes, and you get the Don Kauffman Award for proper use of "infer" rather than "imply". Mr Kauffman was my 11th grade American lit teacher at Northwestern, and later was appointed a sort of "master teacher" in PG County. Fun to mention his name, since teachers get so little recognition, and I learned more at Mount Rainier JHS and Northwestern HS (and at the PG Regional Library and DC Central Library) than I did at a famous college.

No Davy says to reporters

You like to make up names for players.  Whoever ptches the last out is the closer.

Oh, and this isn't breaking news, but Davey says he'll go to Drew Storen in the 9th for now. Still has faith in Clippard and will mix him in
