I don't want to jinx anything but . . .

The Mets won the World Series in just their seventh year of existence.

The Nationals (though not an expansion team) began in 2005.

Therefore . . .

Mets formed 1962 - 62/63/64/65/66/67/68/69 = 8th season
Nats arrived 2005 - 05/06/07/08/09/10/11/12 = 8th season

But the '70 and '71 Mets didn't also win the World Series.

This year's Oakland A's would be a better comparison. The Miracle Mets came back from being 9 1/2 back in August.

The '69 Mets had great pitching, and a mediocre field lineup. The Cubs, on paper, were a better team...and the Cubs had battled the Cardinals in '67 and '68. Ernie Banks, Billie Williams, Ron Santo, Glen Beckert, Don Kessenger, Randy Hundly, Ferguson Jenkins, Ken Holtzman. Mets caught them, beat them, and then beat the All-Powerful Baltimore Orioles.

This team has a better and deeper lineup. Seaver and Koosman were special, though.

(The 2012 Nats remind me more of the '86 Mets in the pitching and depth...and in having Davey manage them)
