Well?   What was the other one?   :)    Who was on that '52 team?

Well?   What was the other one?   :)    Who was on that '52 team?

THE Bucky Harris managed...third stretch going back to 1924. Mickey Vernon, Pete Runnels, Eddie Yost, Jackie Jensen, and Jim Busby starred. Jensen was traded to Boston a year or two later, and became an AL All-Star over and over. Runnels was a solid .300 hitter. Vernon won his second AL batting title the next year. Yost had about a .400 OB % for his entire 20 year career...had such a good eye that umpires tended to let Yost call close pitches. If Yost took the pitch, it was probably a ball. Busby was an ordinary hitter, but very smooth fielder in the giant-sized Griffith Stadium CF.

I was only 4...didn't start collecting baseball cards until '53...kids on my block taught ourselves to read from the back of the cards.

About '54. Calvin Griffith took day-to-day control of the Nats. My dad thought Calvin was cheap and stupid...replaced Bucky with Chuck Dressen, who won a lot of games with Breooklyn, but, unfortunately, did not bring Jackie Robinson, Duke Snyder, and Roy Campanella. Calvin G. seems to have been dumping salary all through the '50s. Might have been building a farm system, which the team had never really had. That all led to the Griffith team winning the pennant in 1965, but they were the Twins by then.

1969...you can read about it in Stephen Walker's "A Whole New Ballgame". That was Ted Williams first year. They won 86 games.

So...87 wins is the next target...will give the 2012 team the best record since 1933 (ignoring the fluky war-time team in 1944 or '45 that finished second. )

Just me.   LOL

Harper went to catch a fly in Left Center and it appeared he called Morse off.   Morse didn't back off (IMHO) and when he passed in front of Harper, he gave a move like a fake catch.   That's when he was pulled.   I think Davey was pissed about that unprofessional move.   Plus, he played a fly before that like Dave Kingman and that is unforgivable.  :)

Attended the game. Crowd seemed dead at first but got decently lively towards the end. Wish there was a breeze but otherwise it was nice. Got to sit in the 300s right off home plate and now I am spoiled, best seats I have had in this ballpark. But a great :w: to attend!

PS Where in the 300's?   I do 315 when I can with the help of a STH.

311 row C. I'm thinking about 1/4th season tickets and if I got some they would be around there either in row D or higher. That would be pretty sweet.

That area of the 300's is great.   You can see the whole park; the concourse is within a few rows; HD screen is viewable, etc.   I do "J" (right on the concourse).

I just got back too.  Burned up my RCR points to get club seats!  Crowd wasn't as into it as most.  Small holiday crowd and waaay too many Cubs fans.

Great game to watch tho' and a really nice win for a winning season.
