Alright.

Hate to do it... but pull Strasburg.

This set of circumstances rarely ends well for Stephen Strasburg.  :(

Just a tiny cell that formed and parked literally right over the stadium.  It's sunny here in Fairfax...

Look at Desi right now. I bet he's getting PED tested daily.
My brother brought him up while we were discussing Melky this weekend.

Any better than our smashed bullpen?

The rain looks like it will pass quickly so he should be fine. We hope.

Ya know, I had that same thought when I looked at his HR numbers earlier.

It's pretty glaring, but I pray that it's completely unfounded...I really like Desi and would hope he wouldn't go that route.

ETA: and it's sad the game has been so tainted that we even have that thought.

Yep. Now I'm convinced they need to sit Strasburg.

If Detwiler pitches today, they'd have to send Strasburg down (as I suggested) until September 1 and call up, wait for it, Yunesky Maya to pitch for tomorrow.  It's his start day tomorrow.  Lannan's isn't until the day after tomorrow.

Bleh. Gorz for four innings? He's lefty. I guess that could be okay.

He's always had pretty good power - it's not like he's suddenly launching it to the mezzanine. It seems like he's just seeing the ball great and can now hit the belt-high fastball.

Might as well let Detwiler pitch for a couple of innings and bring up Lannan to start tomorrow.

The presence of President Putin ensures victory for the team he favors.  Do we need to take up a collection for him?  And what ever happened to the redheaded spy we sent back?

I thought I heard something about her being a member of their parliment

Head to Alibris and order an intriguing book. Either:

- "Moe Berg: Athlete, Scholar, Spy", by Louis Kaufman, Barbara Fitzgerald, and Tom Sewell (1974), or
- "The Catcher Was a Spy", Nicholas Dawidoff (1994)

About the catcher on the 1933 pennant winning team, Moe Berg, Princeton graduate, accidental catcher (playing for the White Sox, who had all their catchers hurt, Berg said to the manager, "You've got a catcher sitting right here on the bench". Curious thing: Berg was talking about Ed Sheely, a first baseman who had done some catching in the minors.). Berg spoke several languages, had a law degree from Columbia, and is said to have given signals in Hindu and Yiddish. Berg worked in the OSS -- predecessor to the CIA --  during WW2.

I'm not kidding. As Casey Stengel says, "You can look it up".

His numbers over the last 3 years are glaring and that includes that he missed a massive amount of games this year.

Strasburg back on field patting catch. Looks like he's staying in.

Who else? Would be nice to activate John Lannan for the evening, and both Stammen and Gorzo pitched last night.
