They've totally miked the Outlaws section.  NOWHERE is louder than RFK for internationals.

I loved the 'we're going to Brazil' chant though.

I loved the 'we're going to Brazil' chant though.

It sounded like that started as "you're not going to Brazil" (directed at Panama, obviously) and then they switched it. I enjoyed both parts of that song.

Saw the first half last night and recorded the rest to watch this morning....but I forgot to change the channel before turning the TV off, so when I turned it on this morning, SportsCenter was on and the list of upcoming stuff on the left had "Huge Win for USA." So the outcome was spoiled, but I suppose Panama never really threatened aside from that goal called back on the offside call anyway.

They also slid one behind the final defender in injury time but Howard came up big.  It wouldn't have mattered in the game but it would have added to the US's allowing late goals.

Video of the ever-classy Mexican fans throwing bottles at a Costa Rican player trying to line up a corner kick. Anyone speak Spanish? If so, what did the commentators have to say about it?

There is a major advantage for Mexico to play in Azteca Stadium (though they've drawn three straight matches for the first time ever) however as the trouble continues to arise and things like this happens there needs to be a look at taking games away from Azteca.

Probably something to the effect of "look at that stupid freaking tico, he can't even get off a corner.  Ai!  Good one!  Got him in the ear.  Ai!  Another one! Stupid ticos should stick to their mamas' skirts, this is a man's game"

A friend who has gone to Azteca for several US/Mexico games says that the place is absolutely harrowing for visiting fans.  And god help you if you are a woman and need to go out into the concourse for a biobreak.

That repeated 'A' yell with the single clap was cool. Don't know if there is a explanation behind it though. A for America?

I don't mean this in a negative way but the fans at Seattle last night reminded me of the Duke student body at Cameron.    The Seattle folks were great.   Not just the noise you get at a lot of other venues.

Yeah, they're great. Probably the best in the league. Portland fans are awesome, too.

Did I see what appeared to be a cheer leader platform in front of each fan section?    That's what gave me the Cameron feeling.   These fans are co-ordinated and creative.

USA  gets better every game.  It seemed in the past they had to rely on a good bounce or something to eke out 1-0 wins. Every game was 50/50.  Now they control games, one touch pass, play some nice combinations, show some creativity, and attack with speed. It looks like they have a plan. Nice to watch

It was really fun to watch.  Outside of a set piece or two they dominated the game today.  They could/should have netted two or three more.  At least two headers should have been hit home.  This is stilt heir biggest concern in my eyes.  They don't finish with the likes of the top tier teams.  That being said, 13 points after six games is beyond awesome.

That field in Utah looked like it was in absolutely outstanding condition last night. I don't recall seeing any Real Salt Lake games on TV and so I hadn't seen that stadium before. Glad the setting sun didn't appear to cause any problems given the amount of glare that seemed apparent on TV.

I thought the same as TigerFan, the US in many ways dominated the game far more than the statistics can show.

Also important—I believe none of the guys who were playing with a yellow card received a second one, so no suspensions. The next game may be a nasty affair. The Costa Ricans are still in a rage about losing in that snowstorm earlier this year (though FIFA were 100% correct in rejecting the protest because the Costa Ricans didn't follow the proper procedure for lodging a protest). The game is down there and it's not exactly a great place to be the visiting team even under the best of conditions. Maybe the US players should show up wearing football helmets as protection against the batteries.

The title says it all

Heard about this on the radio this morning - horrible.

Brazil actually has a chance of losing next year's World Cup (USA cited as one of the possible emergency back-ups) - not only are their new stadia way behind schedule but their civil order situation is not of the best.

While I would love I just can't see the, taking the World Cup away from Brazil after the long.  T be honest it would be an outrage.  There are always going to be major events held in places that have civil unrest due to one thing or another.   Taking the World Cup away would just shout at other countries residents to start rioting in front of major events and things will change.  Bad precedent if they were to move it.

On the other hand, taking the World Cup from Qatar is something almost everyone could get behind.

I was in London when that World Cup was awarded and I still can't believe it.

Well, the really iffy one is WC2022 (Qatar)...at least WC2018 is in Russia, which is a little more reasonable.  FIFA can go eat a bowl of dicks for ruining 2022 though.
