cause the Nationals are the only winning team that has to deal with injuries.
because we historically have never done well.
it is not jealousy. it is the natural skepticism that comes with a perennial doormat suddenly rising to the top.
and that's fine.
That's true but it is highly unprofessional and intellectually lazy of those commentators.
For all the flak that I give Bobby Carp, you'd never hear him say something like "the Pirates are just lucky" when any donk can see that a combination of McCutchen, Alvarez, Walker, and McDonald is propelling them.
We already have a fairly recent example of a crap team rising to excellence in the recent Rays teams, and they were garbage for even longer than the Nats were. But it was guys like Upton, Pena, Garza, Shields, Price, and Longo who fueled their emergence. The Nats have a similar dynamic with Strasburg, Harper, Zimmerman(n), Gio, and Jackson. To call them "smoke and mirrors" is really freaking stupid and makes me glad I don't listen to those smug Philthy pricks.
