And now the base hit bunt from their third hitter. Great. Bases juiced for Lee.

This doesn't end well ....

So basically that waiver claim that some team made on Cliff Lee, really means nothing?

Yep ... Lannan can't find the strike zone. Now pulling an HRod and looking at the mound like it's the dirt's fault he sucks.

The Phillies have to pull him back if he's claimed by a team he's blocked from trades to, unless he decides to waive his no-trade clause for that club. They can pull him back as well if he's claimed by a team that he hasn't blocked trades too, but you can only do that the first time you put them on the waiver wire. At least, I believe that is what the case is.

After learning all about it last year, I am totally confused by waivers again. Can somebody explain why the Phillies would put all these players up? Or just in general.

All these terrible jokes about the pitcher's name:

He's performing a very poor Hand job.

Because it gives you the option to trade guys once they clear... or are claimed.

Why would every team NOT make a claim on Lee?

Every team put pretty much every player up.  Just so if they do pass through, they are available to be traded even after the trade deadline.  Technically what just passed was the "non-waiver trade deadline."

Some teams don't want to take on the contract/cost of prospects it would take to land him.
