Some coworkers are taking me out for lunch for my birthday and half the TVs in this place are showing the replay of last night's game. Ugh.

I didn't know that there were Marlins bars here.  Or anywhere for that matter.

MDS's house is one big Marlins bar. Actually, it's really more of a shrine to Giancarlo Stanton

Barring an Atlanta meltdown it's hard to see how the Nats hold on.

We had won 9 out of 12 this month before this weekend. Keep flapping in the breeze.

and 10 of those 12 were against losing teams.  The Braves have 15 games left, all against teams below .500 (because we know the Pirates will be by that point) while the Nats have 10 games against contenders and 6 against the Phillies, and it's hard to buy they'll suddenly be good against Philly.

By the way, the Braves have 9 12 division games left against Philly, Miami, and the Mets and they are 29-13 against them combined.

I haven't been panicking, look at the schedule.  This is a serious hole.

Actually a 5.5 game lead isn't a hole. It's a lead.

Before tonight's game, BP and Cool Standings both gave us a 98% chance of winning the division.

, we're better than the Braves over the course of the entire season. I'm not scared by our schedule. If we can't close out against some decent teams and win series here then we won't in the playoffs either.

Gutless. Just a gutless team. Never won a big game in their lives and never will.

They Braves have played 46 games against their remaining opponents and are 31-15.   I don't think the margin of error is what people are assuming and I don't think it's crazy to raise the red flag.

Those are fun to look at in July but mean total dick right now.

Yes, Braves have a very favorable schedule.

Marlins (6) (4-2)
Phillies (3) (2-1)
Mets (3) (2-1)
Pirates (3) (2-1)

The Marlins and Mets are terrible and are playing for nothing. The Phillies are sliding out of the WC race and will roll over for Atlanta like they always do. The Pirates have completely sunk in the second half just like they did last year and are a punching bag.

Assuming no sweeps though they are very possible that puts the Braves finishing 10-5 with 94 wins. Nats would have to go 7-9 to clinch the division outright in that case.

This margin of error you mean?

Nats have 16 left, Braves have 15 left.

  • If Nats go 10-8, Braves would have to go 15-0 to tie the Nats with 99 wins and force a 1 game playoff for the division.
  • If Nats go 8-8, Braves would have to go 13-2 to tie the Nats with 97 wins and force a 1 game playoff for the division.
  • If Nats go 6-10, Braves would have to go 11-4 to tie the Nats with 95 wins and force a 1 game playoff for the division.

If we take care of business it doesn't matter what the Braves do.

That's the point, if had won even 1 game inAtlanta, we'd still be 7.5 up. We didn't take care of business in Atlanta.
