I still can't believe this team is 50-35, in first place in the NL East, has Bryce Harper playing CF and Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmermann all pitching phenomenally. The last few years have been terrible, but damn if this team isn't awesome.

Me, too. Gotta win against the NL East. Three of four in this case. Win most series.

Let's hope it lasts and doesn't go the way of the 2005 season. Getting a win today and tomorrow would be a good start and would essentially crush the Marlins' hopes.

We had chances yesterday and didn't capitalize.  And LaRoche almost tied it with a homer in the 9th.  Today let's put them away with our ace pitcher and more offense.

I hate to see Desmond injured but it's a good time to find out what happens if he ain't around.    After watching a few of his at bats last night, I think that's a good plan.

Article from the Wash Post.

Burnett likely available Sunday Adam Kilgore Saturday, Jul 14, 2012 Manager Davey Johnson backed off his assertion from earlier in the day that left-handed reliever Sean Burnett could be moved to the disabled list and said Burnett will actually be available tomorrow,in all likelihood.

Nationals doctors prescribed Burnett anti-inflammatory medication,Johnson said, and after he played catch before the game,he felt fine for tomorrow afternoon. “I think he’ll be available tomorrow,” Johnson said.

Burnett admitted to trainers Friday night that he had been feeling elbow tightness for about a month and a half. Johnson reacted initially with extreme caution, not wanting to risk serious injury to the Nationals’ top setup man.

One other lingering injury note: In his final at-bat tonight,all-star shortstop Ian Desmond fell to a knee and winced after taking a swing. He insisted afterward that his left oblique felt fine and that he only grimaced because he was upset for chasing a pitch out of the strike zone.

Earlier in the game,Desmond dove into first base headfirst to beat out a bunt single. Probably the Nationals’ most valuable position player so far,Desmond has played every inning of the past 70 games, even though the soreness convinced him to pull out of the All-Star Game. He said the pain comes and goes, but so far he has been able to manage it fine.

And one final tidbit: Michael Morse is 0 for 8 with sixstrikeouts in the first two games of the second half after going 21 for 52 to end the first half. ““He’s just in between the fastball and the breaking ball,” Johnson said. “He’s a better hitter than that. He’ll get out

Game   :)

Morse doesn't add much to that either.   Hell,  SS may be the best hitter in the bottom of the order.

Davey must have read last nite's GDT - I suggested he move LaRoche behind Zimm rather than Morse.  In the last two games Morse has stranded Zimm on second base.  It's good he takes our suggestions. :mg:

Ian Desmond is not in Sunday's lineup and could sit out several days after aggravating his left oblique injury.
Desmond admitted that he was forced to bunt in his last at-bat Saturday because his side was bothering him so much. It's an injury that dates back prior to the All-Star break and is certainly something that could eventually send him to the DL, though the Nats are hopeful that that won't be the case. Danny Espinosa is starting at shortstop Sunday.

No big scoop there - ESPN.com had that up a couple of days ago. Also, the Braves series opens with Strasburg vs Hanson on Friday and Jackson vs Sheets on Saturday afternoon, and Jurrjens vs TBD (why no Detwiler?) on Saturday evening.

Delightful. Just delightful. Next thing you know the Braves will deal for Dempster and we're thoroughly scuppered...thank goodness I stocked up on Stella before the weekend (and have been maintaining my Scotch stash as well).

That lineup looks like crap, so we'll probably score 8 runs.
