Motorcycles
« Topic Start: June 23, 2012, 04:36:25 PM »
Haven't seen a motorcycle thread on here.

I have a beat up old Vulcan but am thinking of upgrading.  V Strom or one of the Honda (NC 700 - a new bike) or Kawasaki (Versys) equivalents.  I'll probably get whatever Coleman's gives me a good deal on.

It's twelve years old and I've had it for about 6 years.  It's time.

I've had mine 10 years and have added/changed it over the years.   If you get a new one, get a "blank canvas".   That way, you can trick it out as you like.

What do you ride?

I'm just riding my bike until it dies - fixing the various problems it has (leak in the exhaust pipe causing a clank/backfiring being the biggest pain in my azz) would cost more than the bike is worth.

My original was a 1970 350 Scrambler (LOL).     I bought a 2002 Sportster 1200 Custom.   Put an extended Dyna front end on it.   Solo seat with a sprinkling of chrome  ... straight pipes (love noise).   Added white walls to give it the classic 60's look and ...

Nice.  My first bike was a crappy Nighthawk.  Moved up to a Vulcan which I've had for several years.

I really want one of the 'adventure' type bikes like the V Stroms.  I'm not a Harley guy.  I do like the Triumph retro bikes.

My first love was a 1970 Triumph Bonneville.

That's a beautiful bike. Too bad you don't still have the Scrambler, too.

As a PA guy you'll appreciate this ...   Rode the Scrambler (with knobby tires) from Western PA to DC on the Turnpike.   Whoa  ....

My F-I-L, may he rest peacefully - he was mostly a jackass when he was alive - (only half kidding) rode from Easton to Aberdeen when he was in the service on a two-stroke, 98cc 1939 German DKW.

Gigantic, brass cojones, or no sense. One or the other.

The bike's in my shed. :)

Amal Carbs, Lucas electrics what could go wrong.

One of the best twisty road bikes of that era.

I have a buddy (82nd AB vet) who rode from Philly to DC every weekend on a 150CC on the BW PKY from B'more south.   That's when it was loaded with the asphalt strips every 30 or 40 feet.   Said his ass took a beating.

When we were young, none of us had any sense.   Young, dumb and full of cum :).   That's why they drafted young guys.   LOL

I can't imagine taking a bike that small on the highway.  I see a lot of 250's around DC but I never see them on highways.

Highways around DC in general are pretty ridiculous.  Seems like everyone is on their cell phone.

Back then, if you had a 450 or lo a 650, you had a "big" bike.   Back in that era or perhaps a little later, Goldwings were only 1200CC.

What would take me back would be a 1970ish Honda CB 350. (I know, pathetic, but it's what I remember.) I guess it would be okay to tool around on local back roads.

But I'm too much of a chicken to ride.

I always tell folks I'd rather die with a throttle in my hand than a TV remote.   LOL    Believe me,  I've had a few opportunities to change my mind.

I do have one of these sitting in my basement ready to be restored. we tooled around in the woods on these things for six hours a day every summer day in Northern New Jersey when I was 14. God, was that fun. Sometimes Margaret O'Mara would ride on the back...

(Image removed from quote.)

Riding is like psychotherapy without paying $150 an hour.   I told the wife that if the motorcycle could cook, she'd be gone.
