Don't knock the Basement.  i'm wearing a suit from the original (and really only) basement. Suitably tailored.

Mama and I used to meet for breakfast across from St. Anthony's before she went into the Basement.  we'd meet folks after they went to daily Mass.  Covered all the bases.  I'd join her on men's suit sales so I could have a second set of eyes.

The team will not make a dime off this quote. Anyone that thinks otherwise doesn't understand official MLB marketing. They are the definition of unimaginative.

Fans on the other hand, as already seen, will likely make a quick buck off the statement.

Anything that advances the Harper brand will end up making the team money in the long run. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't understand marketing in general.

Sort of like how I feel when someone asks if I want my corned beef sandwich with lettuce, mayo, and on white bread?

Thank you, Woody Allen!

But when we have Mr. Blue Sequins and others showing up dressed as clowns for the playoffs in October, that's a clown act, bro.

We need an 'off-topic' thread (albeit still about the team), where we can post gems like this:

"@TorreySmithWR: RT @John_Wall: @TorreySmithWR lol can't have a pitch like me bra...I threw a nice pitch haha I'm good haha"

So I saw the whole video. Bryce really did not like the question. Seems like the thing he reacted to was the age thing. When you listen to it (without seeing it), it sounds like he's reacting to the Nats PR flak more than he is to the question. Not so. He really looked annoyed and a little embarrassed.

I think the reporter was just trying to make a tongue and cheek joke with that question. Fairly harmless but he should have made it more clear that he was making a joke.

I thought it was pretty clear he was trying to be funny.  I don't think he had a clue about his faith.

Agree, agree.
The guy asking the question was just referring to the 'age' thing, not religion.
He had no idea about BH being a member of the CoLDS.

Though Harper's response was priceless and I loved it, he was also showing his age and being a little too touchy.

While I agree that the reporter probably wasn't aware of Harper's religious affiliations it would be akin to asking Ryan Braun if he will enjoy a nice slab of bacon after a big game. I'm guessing that's how Harper took it.

I heard on POTUS this morning a sound clip of Senate Majority Leader Harry Ried telling a reporter, "That's a clown question, bro."

It's going viral.

Clearly a jacket from Don Cherry. Did he give it to Bob of FP during the Toronto series?

Reid is just representing a Nevada constituent.  "Clown question" is Nevada-ese.

A ROACH: The origins of the ‘clown question’ phrase - per Bryce Harper’s older brother Bryan
http://auburnpub.com/sports/doubledays/the-origin-of-that-is-a-clown-question-bro/article_9c7e1453-1f6e-514d-9dee-3c53dda5bbaf.html

Bryce Harper’s older brother Bryan is a farmhand for the Nats rookie ball affiliate, a 6-foot-5 left-hander who made two appearances last year for the Nationals’ Gulf Coast League affiliate and will pitch as a reliever at Auburn.

“I thought it was great,” Bryan said. The snappy retort is already on T-Shirts and getting references on the late night talk show circuit. “That is actually from one of my good friends,” Bryan Harper said referring to Donn Roach, a friend from the Harper’s hometown of Las Vegas. Roach was drafted by the Angels and is now in the Padres system. “That is one of his (Roach’s) words. He has always used 'clown' as an (adjective),” Bryan Harper said.  As for how his brother used the reference in context: “That is some saltiness. A little bit of veteran swagger right there for Bryce.”
