Last Minute Memorial Weekend Travel?
« Topic Start: May 25, 2012, 04:33:17 PM »
Anybody have suggestions for last minute Memorial Day weekend travel?

I ended up procrastinating on the beach as my fiancée had a nasty sunburn which has settled down. Looks like there is still some places off Altantic Beach, NC but I am bit concerned about trying a Saturday morning departure. A few years ago, I ended up in stand still traffic on I-95 South for several hours.

I haven't lucked into any last minute flgihts either. Normally I would just camp someplace but she isn't a fan. Hmm...

Tough assignment.

B&B on the Eastern Shore is always a fun couples thing to do.  Fantastic biking along uncrowded roads, Kayaking / canoeing in marshes with eagles circling overhead, seafood, artists galleries, etc.  There are some big hotels that are really nice too, like the Cambridge Hyatt.

St Michaels, Oxford, Chestertown, Snow Hill, Easton, all nice.

how about a cabin/B&B in the Shenandoah?   Hiking, maybe some kayaking/white water rafting on the Shenandoah river?  Otherwise, Snowshoe in WV could be nice.  A weekend in Baltimore could be nice too.

:spaz:  Leave DC for Grozny-on-the-Bay?  This is actually a pretty nice weekend to stay in town...lots of people have buggered off, and (except for tens of thousands of motorcycles) tourist season has not quite hit the red zone.

Homestead is nice near by and cheaper. For getting away, nothing beats high Hampton near cashiers NC

Savage River Lodge is awesome but pricy (over $300 per night) and fully booked for this weekend.  Just west of Frostburg, located in the center of a large wildlife management area so no encroaching civilization.

I like the suggestions generally and have been checking out many of them. I haven't quite found the right fit yet but have keep looking.

Honestly a lot of cool ideas in this thread for trips. Much appreciated. :mg:
