that's ridiculous. Any ump should be able to go to any other ump and say "you blew that call" - if the 1B ump wants to stick to the call then that's fine, but nothing should stop the one ump from being able to tell another that they completely missed a call.
Under that scenario, the umpire in the wrong would feel he is being "shown up" by the other umpires and proceed to toss them out of the game leaving the game with only one umpire.
Rob Biertempfel @BiertempfelTrib#Pirates are in process of filing a formal complaint with MLB about ump Campos inconsistent strike zone in last night's game
You can't possibly win that complaint. No point in even trying.
If only there was some system that did it automatically- perhaps one used to grade umps or tha is instantly available for tv viewers
Gotta start somewhere. If enough complaints are made about the quality of the officiating, eventually they'll have to take notice.
I know stafiums aren't allowed to post live pitch fx data, but I wonder what the penalty is
@JeffPassanSources: MLB to test out new radar- and camera-based replay systems in Yankee Stadium and Citi Field starting next week.
@JeffPassanThe systems at both NY parks will be for fair-or-foul calls and are very similar to the one used in tennis.
