Man, has a teenager ever in their first month hit seven triples? Let alone seven triples and five homers? Seems to me that has to be a record of some sort. Just incredible and insane. Never in my wildest did I picture Harper batting 288. And to think we have six more years of this!

He has hit 4 3B, not 7. He has a lot of 2b's because he is a dumb baserunner.

Hopefully we have 16 more years of this, come on now.... Nats are going to pay him. I have been told by experts that the Nationals will be able to offer him as much as anyone can.

It is a real drag when Nats fans act pessimistic like his career here is limited.

He's not a dumb baserunner, and I'm pretty sure he has only been thrown out at third once. He's a very aggressive baserunner but not dumb.

And crap, I just checked, and stupidly saw Bryce's double as a triple, and thus seven triples for the year. Still stands though, seven doubles, four triples and five homers in the first month of a 19 year olds career? Insane.

What a game for Harper... This is the Harper thread. Two rockets and a walk, resulting from a great AB

According to MLB Network Radio.... Lombo/Harper became the first pair of rookies in modern baseball history to lead off the game with back to back homers

Quote
I was lying on the floor Saturday, throwing  a pen up in the air and catching it, and wondering when Bryce Harper would face Clayton Kershaw so I could watch it. Typical Saturday stuff. And it occurred to me: Kershaw? Who cares about Kershaw? He’s the best pitcher in the National League, sure, but Kershaw over seven innings isn’t nearly as dominant as the most dominant relievers are in just one inning. Even without facing Kershaw, Bryce Harper has faced almost-impossible pitching in the majors. The five pitchers Harper has faced with the highest strikeout rates this year:

•Aroldis Chapman: 16.1 strikeouts per nine innings
•Jason Grilli: 15.8
•Craig Kimbrel: 14.2
•Kenley Jansen: 13.7
•Jonny Venters: 12.0

I’m going to ignore Grilli, because one of Harper’s plate appearances against him was sort of uninstructive and the other won’t play on my computer at the moment. The other four pitchers have thrown 93 innings with 146 strikeouts and a 1.74 ERA. They will do.

continued....

He's sensational and very fun to watch!  I don't think he's a dumb baserunner.  He's an aggressive baserunner.  Unfortunately, with the way the rest of our line-up is hitting, we can't afford to lose base runners.  He may have to slow down a bit and take less bases although you hate to mess with the powerhouse that he is.

just want to point out, if the guys behind him aren't hitting well doesn't that make it more worth it to try to stretch a double into a triple with one out.

Also getting tagged out as the second out at third is much more defensible than as the first or third.

It's still an unforced out on the base paths.

Right, I forgot, because we only care about what Harper does, since he's the only Nat on our fantasy team...

He got thrown out at third on a youthful, over-aggressive move which was one of the key plays that cost the team the game.  The HR was great, but today was a learning experience.  Don't care how good you are - know your role.  Stand there on 2b and let the 3-4-5 guys drive you in.

3-4-5 guys were 0-12 yesterday

Our number 3 hitter is, by his own admission, sucking.
Our number 4 hitter has 2 hits in his last 5 games
Our number 5 hitter hasn't faced MLB pitching all season.

Keep on doing what you do Bryce.
