i dont give a single freak about this, but i dont think we can/should be/will be outbid by anyone in baseball for Bryce Harper. It'll be his decision whether he wants to stay with the same team and guys that have been good to him for his whole career or if he really wants to go to the pinstripes. If we're outbid, then what the freak are we waiting to spend our money on?

2020 is when we compete!!

can is a definite, should depends on what it would do to the overall payroll structure- if the idiot is right about $400 million, the smart move would be to pass, and will depends on a lot of things we don't know now (has the team won, what is attendance, what is the structure of the MASN deal, did Strass and Zimmermann resign...)

That's a big ass number.

Reminds me of when Glenn Robinson demanded a contract from the Bucks that was larger than the appraised value of the team.

i think what's most impressive about him so far is his patience at the plate, his walk rate seems much higher than it was in the minors (i'm mindfacting, haven't checked the stats).  I've only seen him take one really bad swing hacking at a pitch high in the zone in an effort to hit a late game HR).  I looked through the last through box scores and he's near or at the top in most pitches seen.

his walk rate so far in the majors: 13.0%. Was 11% in 'Cuse, 10.2% in AA, 14.4% in Hagerstown. His strikeout rate, however, is far below all of his minor league numbers.

ok, did some digging, Harper is averaging 3.76 pitches per PA, league average is 3.79.

Our leaders are Werth (4.50), Bernie (4.03), and LaRoche (3.98).

There's not quite the correlation between average and P/PA that I expected - Lombo is at the bottom at 3.01.

He's close. He won't have to wait long. I predict this weekend at the bandbox in Cincy.

i'm willing to bet he gets the silent treatment after his first HR.  or, everyone puts on a cole hamels mask and beans him with baseballs.

Chasing a ton of pitches. Bashing his own face. Relax, rookie.

The "hitting himself" joke really isn't funny when everyone repeats it so much and so dryly that it sounds serious.

Clearly he hit something and it came back and hit him in the face... whether it be a chair leg or a shard of bat... something hit his face.

acomak: Harper took his frustrations out on the wall, w a bat. Davey said the bat came back & hit him. May need a stitch or 2, may be out few days

Bat, like Linty said.

Well now that we have the facts, that's great.  I was just getting a little sick of all the not-joke-sounding jokes about him breaking his own face and blah blah blah.  Not funny, IMO, esp when it's being repeated so much that it confuses people (I'm not the only one)

Ian Desmond says the Nats are going to start calling Harper, "Bam Bam."

sigh.   he'll get his ticket punched back to Syracuse with stuff like this.  The team won, that's all he should care about.
