Michael Taylor is getting some notice.  It'll be interesting to see what he can do this season at double-A.  Here's hoping that he can maintain a solid batting average against better competition.  He does have some momentum right now.

@ProfessorParks: Surprisingly good reports on #Nats OF Michael Taylor. Loud tools; big raw power; strong arm; ++ range in CF. Hit tool could spoil the party

I believe Keith Law said that at worst, he sees him as a 5th OF because the defense was so good. Hopefully he or Goodwin starts making a little more noise this season so life after Span in 2016 doesn't look so questionable.

There is no better defensive center fielder that walks this earth,” one National League scout said. “Majors, minor leagues, whatever.”

If the bat is even close, then wow. I guess it makes sense to keep him down in the minors with Span on the roster, but not at the expense of winning games.

yeah, he had a great year in PR league ball, but I'm not sure how good the pitching is down there.  I presume he starts at AA and we'll see what happens.  High-A numbers weren't all that bad: .263 / .340 / .426, 10HR, 51 SBs.  He should be contending for the CF spot by next season, maybe we bring him and Goodwin up next year and one starts, one plays the Bernie role.

Taylor is nowhere near ready with the bat. Anything above 92-93 mph practically knocks the bat out of his hands. He needs a lot more time to develop than Goodwin does.

"Bat knocked out of his hands" for me implies that his swing itself is built for very little power, and that he'll struggle to make pitchers do anything other than throw fastballs down the middle of the plate because you can't punish them. Lombardozzi for example.

Taylor had 10 HRs, 57 extra base hits and a .163 ISO last year, so I don't know. Maybe there are just enough soft tossers in A-ball for him to kill, but that doesn't scream "bat knocked out of his hands". Goodwin had a .155 ISO last year, although obviously a level up. If you can knock 57 extra base hits on 86-92, I don't feel like you're a "long way away" from handling 93-96. That is probably just one year's maturation in wrist, forearm and core strength. I'm not worried about either him or Goodwin "handling" big league pitching. My concern for both of them (and for most prospects) is pitch recognition.

I don't know, he feels like he's a late/slow developer. Late bloomer in high school, has taken a second attempt at low-A and high-A to master the level, generally hits better as the season goes on, etc.

This is a pretty glowing take on him: http://baseballnewshound.com/?p=3290

with speed guys extra base hits is misleading- was the double because of a strong line drive to a corner or because they were simply fast enough to leg out a play that slower guys would get a single on? As far as the results, who cares- either way a runner is on second, but for measuring the bat, there is a difference.

Correct, that's one of the reasons I linked to a scouting report that talks about his short, compact swing that is flashing plus power. In addition, reports from this spring training, like the tweet above, also talk about him having big raw power.

Now, there's a difference between "raw power" and "game power" but when people are talking about you as having 20-25 HR potential in the bigs, and you already have hit 10+ HRs in 2 of the previous 3 seasons, you're not "getting the bat knocked out of your hands".

The multiple times I've seen Taylor play in person, the hard fastball is something he really struggles with.

When he gets a pitch, he can drive it... but usually its on something soft that he reads correctly. I think with a bit more body development he'll definitely be able to handle MLB pitching... just needs a bit of time.

Taylor has loud tools, but the inconsistencies in his game will likely hinder the overall ceiling. The power and defense will play, but the hit tool needs some work and I do wonder whether he has enough to make any impact at the Major League level. At the very least, Taylor shows enough to provide an asset for any club, but some inability to consistently string together AB against RHP could keep him out of a starting role.

Taylor and Cutter Dykstra seem to be the main hitters at Harrisburg.

Taylor 2-for-3 with (did I read that correctly?) his 10th homer. Now hitting about .286.

Just looked at his numbers, Taylor is balling right now. 53 K's already though, he needs to work on that.

Good night for Taylor. 11th HR and two SB's to also give him 11.

Taylor might beat out Goodwin to replace Span in couple of years.

Does he have a 30/30 season in him?

Should definitely get to 30+ SBs, He's never hit more than 13 HRs in a season before so no idea where his power will peak.

Taylor has always been so skinny looking the times I've seen him play... I really don't know if the power is for real or not. I think he's more of a 15-20 guy in his prime.
