CMW, Detwiler, Lannan: one of them is the number 5 starter.

Yeah and Maya is doing fantastic and craps out every time he gets to the show!  Go figure!

The Peter Principle applies in baseball as it does in much other human activity: 'in a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence'...many are the minor-league stars who flop in the bigs.

---

I never actually disliked Lannan myself, but the image I'll never get out of my head is that perpetual wistful-puppy,  trying-to-smile-through-tears, why's-everybody-always-picking-on-me look on his face, that Eeyore-like persona he seemed to cultivate (hence my use of that name for him at times here). He just looked like he knew something terrible was going to happen. The theoretical talent was (and may still be) there, but he always struck me as having really serious mental-toughness issues.

Not me. the last two years I have watched Lannan start poorly and show admirable backbone and ride out the rough early innings to keep the team in the game, sometimes winning, sometimes not, but at least displaying creditable spunk.  Don't know what you were seeing.

I'm not saying the FO was wrong to use his option and see what Wang and Det have to offer, but I don't rank him any lower than them yet. I'm a fan of a guy who has done fairly well with limited talent, only to get shafted this year.

I always think of Lannan on those gruesome teams...coming up to play the Mets...getting flattened, as if Matt Chico and Mike Bacsik were major league pitchers, and knowing that Lannan would pitch like he belonged in the majors. Also knowing that if Lannan pitched for the Yankees, he would win about 15 games as "the pitcher AJ Burnett was supposed to be".

The guy is OK.

Ever since he took that liner off his face and pitched well the next week I've had a ton of respect for him. I recognize he's an average at best starter but I've always liked him. He deserves to be in the bigs.

Latest on Lannan

The John Lannan saga continues.

The Dodgers and Rockies have had recent discussions with the Nationals about the veteran left-hander, but no trade is close, according to major-league sources.

The Nationals want any club that acquires Lannan to pay the rest of his remaining salary and part with at least one legitimate player, sources say.

Lannan, 27, is owed just under $3.5 million of his $5 million salary. He is again eligible for arbitration in 2013, and then will become a free agent.

The Rockies “kicked the tires” on Lannan but were turned off by the price, while talks between the Dodgers and Nationals have been only preliminary, sources say.

Lannan has spent the entire season with Triple A Syracuse after going 10-13 with a 3.70 ERA in 33 starts for the Nationals last season.

He has not helped his trade value with his inconsistent performance at Triple A, going 4-5 with a 5.63 in 10 starts.

The Dodgers, short on prospects but financially flexible under new ownership, are looking for starting pitching, sources say. Lannan would be a potential alternative to left-hander Ted Lilly, who is on the disabled list with a shoulder problem.

The Rockies, who recently released left-hander Jamie Moyer, also are exploring the market for starters. They are interested in signing left-hander Jeff Francis, according to FOXSports.com’s Tracy Ringolsby. Francis recently opted out of his minor-league deal with the Reds.

Not a chance. Nats want salary relief on ALL of Lannan's contract AS WELL AS a prospect/MLB player in return.

:lmao:

He started sucking when you acknowledged that you were a better man than Lannan. That blew up his self esteem.

Until ALR started regressing to HIS norm do we really need a CF? Not that Werth or Morse are great defensively but we are stuck with one until hell freezes over and we have Morse until 2014. LaRoche would be an easy sign with the club option..

Jaime Garcia just went down.  Maybe the Cards could use Lannan.  He's a lefty like Garcia.  That might be about where the similarities end though.  Ha.
