I wouldn't use him.

How can he be doing work in your area without insurance?

Have you considered a third bid?

New wrinkle, it turns out the cheap guy isn't bonded or insured. Do we consider the 5k insurance against having someone fall off our roof and sue us?

You have homeowners, but I wouldn't touch an uninsured contractor

I guess we were kind of figuring we'd use one of the two bids, plus it takes time to get those scheduled and have someone come out and then get you a price.

Basically if you know how to do something it's pretty easy to work just about anywhere.

Yeah, that would make me really nervous.

Okay, I guess this must be middle age, but we're going to do the safe thing.  :money:

Just curious -  did you look into getting ducts put in? Our house came with a brand new HVAC system.

Our house was built in 1903, so ducts would be either a nightmare to put in or very unsightly. Ductless is our best option.
