Uhh, except Illinois is still a top 20 job is and likely a better fit for Smart than Maryland.

I'd be mildly surprised if he passed.

I may have been misunderstood.   I was not suggesting Smart would go to MD for any reason other than as a visiting coach.   If it ain't about that, I'm sorry for intruding ...  :)

Only mildly surprised? You sound certain that he's going, as if you knew what he was thinking.

I'm certain that he will leave at some point. If he passes on Illinois it's to wait for a better job.

Some people were posting earlier in the thread that he passed Maryland. I was just pointing out that a midwest job might be a better fit for Shaka.

Illinois is a very good job.

I totally agree, I meant that if a VCU fan can't understand why their coach would go to ...Illinois, then there's probably no point in having the argument.

I'm not even trying to crush VCU, I think they're a great program, they're clearly the class of a pretty good mid-major conference.  They've been in this position before with Anthony Grant and obviously recovered very well and I think they will again.  But to do anything less than assume Shaka is gone within the next couple of years isn't in line with the reality of the situation.

This.  His next move will be the most important of his career and he's in the enviable situation in which he can take the time to get it right.  Illinois has a lot going for it.

Bradford Burgess, the lone senior this season, is the only player on the team not recruited by Shaka. I think he'll want to graduate at least two years of his own recruited seniors before considering moving on. I expect him to stay there for another 2 years hopefully.

The Texas/Cincinnati game is about to begin on CBS.

Enjoyed a nice lunch out at the local bar spot. I picked Texas, thinking Cinci had peaked, forgetting how awful Texas was this year.

Good thing I have control over the TVs in this place. I'll head out to the lobby in a few and catch the last few minutes.

Less than a minute left. Texas down by 4. They messed up by taking long 3's in their last couple of possessions when they needed to run their offense and attack the rim.

I'm missing too many games. My bracket is going to be sunk. Watch, UVA will win next.

I expected a better game than this. 71-45 UVA gets absolutely destroyed. 26 point loss.
Proof that they didn't deserve to be in this year.

I didn't think they should have made it necessarily. It was clear down the stretch that UVA wasn't playing like they were early in the season and that they weren't a tourney team.

The selection committee is no longer allowed to look at the last 10 games and judge a team on that. It's now only supposed to look at the entire season.

Regardless of how UVA played down the stretch, by looking at their total season, they deserved to be in.

Linty, it is eliminated as a category, but individuals are free to use momentum as a barometer for whether a team should get in.
