That's assuming that Manning signs with the Titans. If he signs with the Broncos, the Niners are screwed.

they could always sign John Beck.

Manning hasn't signed yet but he has apparently chosen Denver as his next team. They're currently negotiating.

I don't know why but I'm surprised by this.   I figured a week or two ago it would be Miami, Tennessee, Arizona and San Francisco with Denver way in the back.    I guess Elway and Manning made a HOF pact.

Jeff Saturday may be heading to Denver with Peyton. I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas Clark joins him too.

That would be great if Satruday went with Manning.  Always nice to see a familiar . . . uh, whatever.

espn says Smith only will go to Miami if SF signs Manning, despite everything he still wants to stay in SF.

Yes.  :lmao:

Actually TerpFan76 probably thought the same thing.  :?   But how much did you think he would get? He got $26 million over 3 seasons with $10 million guaranteed on the strength of two games (one in which he threw a pick at the end of the game to seal the loss).

I figured more years, but not really more money. While $10mil is a lot of money, it doesn't appear that the deal will hamstring Seattle over the long haul.

he does need to find a job with a team that can feature him as an H-back or in a wild cat.

I think he would be a monster in that role. No one can deny that the guy has a ton of talent. He's just not an NFL caliber QB.

Tebow would be a great H-back/TE.

Chances of that ever happening seem to be nil.

Considering what Tebow did to Pittsburgh, he put it on a tee for you dude. You should've knocked that one out of the yard.

Maybe it's just me - and admittedly football is a very distant second to baseball for me - but Denver has always seemed like a second rate destination to me.  Yeah they've had their greats and their rings, but I still don't think of Denver as a "top tier" team for a premier free agent, even one like Manning who's likely playing out the final year or two of his career.

You're probably right. Mitlen's pretty decent for a Stealer fan though.

That seems like a waste of a roster spot - a guy good in one trick package

I wasn't talking about a trick package like the wildcat. I would try the guy out as a TE and also run him out of the backfield. I think he could be a huge weapon if he's used correctly. He's dead set on being an NFL QB though, so it will never happen. I kind of look at him as being a Dallas Clark type of player. He's actually bigger than Clark and I'm sure he's faster.

He's not as fast/explosive as the good HBs/TEs, maybe as an hb teams would have to worry about the pass, but it seams like a gimmick

I would use him as a TE on the majority of plays, but you could run him out of the backfield every now and then. Not sure how it would turn out, but I think he's got a better chance of succeeding in that role, as opposed to playing QB. I just don't think the guy is ever going to improve enough to be a legit NFL QB.

It's much easier to gain chunks of yardage lined up as a QB and the defense reads pass at the snap and either goes into pass rush mode or backs up in pass coverage. When you're lined up as a RB and the defense reads a straight run at the snap it's a different animal altogether.

They really struck out in the QB sweepstakes this offseason. Garrard may not be able to beat out Matt Moore.
