Dredd trailer.

Look, I like Karl Urban... I really do... but stop making crappy movies.

I want to apologize to Karl... Dredd is fresh with a 89% rating.

As Chief correctly said at the time, could be interesting, after all.

Karl Urban is awesome. I thought this movie could be pretty good from the trailer. It did look like a dumb idea though.

So I've heard. I plan on watching it sometime.

Don't remember seeing the actor playing Jackie in any other movies... But he looks like a dead ringer.

Looks awesome, but the music sucked. Just didn't find it appropriate for the time period (boohoo). But I'll still watch it of course :)

It was pretty clear to me but I'm sure the book(s) would add a lot more detail. The idea is nuts and crazy but it was still interesting and cool. Like the opening scene of the games was pretty crazy.

I was pretty disappointed with it.  They glossed over a lot of things from the book and the violence was heavily sanitized.  Obviously aimed at maximizing mass appeal.

The idea is ripped off of the Japanese movie Battle Royale but I still liked the books and movie.

That's a pretty big assumption to make.

That looks so ridiculously overdramatized.  It's an awesome enough story, I wish they'd just let it tell itself.

Well, obviously the story was made so that EVERYONE could see the film. The book is a "young adult" book I believe. So converting it to a movie has to even lessen some of the details so that those parents that bring kids to such movies can be saved from all the gory details... even though everything is pretty straight forward. I was surprised and satisfied with the way the opening scene was during the games. It wasn't as brutal (probably should've been) as I thought it could be but it definitely showed enough. Obviously many young kids got iced because they couldn't stand a chance to the older, more developed kids who wielded sabres and such. I thought it was portrayed very well.

As for battle royal, I thought it was well known that The Hunger Games idea was based off it? I mean Battle Royal was another one of these books that came out in the 90's that dealt with a lot of the same issues... but more gory in detail.

I felt the same way... though I did enjoy the movie.

Thought they could have gone a lot more in-depth with the games, themselves... but obviously didn't want to push the PG-13 rating too much.

To clarify, I still enjoyed the movie, I just wished they would have stayed a bit closer to the source material.  I understand things have to be cut/shortened for time considerations, but it was more than that.  Sanitizing the movie for the kids is silly when most of those same kids read the books.

Is it?  I'm not a superfan (have only read the first book so far) so I don't know much about it.  If that's true, then my apologies to PA (though I think calling it "a ripoff" is still a bit  much)

To be honest, I haven't read either book so I may be talking out of my ass. But from a lot of reviews from people I know that read both (yes I'm stealing their "views) I thought it was known. I know "Young Adult" books were read by teens but a lot of PG-13 movies don't even show gore... think of LOTR. Those movies should've shown ALOT more stuff than they really did. Kids below the age of 13 probably don't read these books like teen's do for summer reading.

Just watched "There Will Be Blood". I thought it was a good film. I'm not going to place it in my top 10 or 20 or anything like many have but it was a good film.

I also haven't seen "No Country for Old Men" so I plan on watching that next.

Looper.

I don't know what to make of it. I want to love it, and it is a very good film... but I think it's just missing that little something that I can't put my finger on.
