Not really.  Springsteen is decent...

Not a huge fan.

If that's your kind of thing, more power to you.  The vocals to me are a bit irritating to listen to.  Their music isn't my thing.

But if you enjoy it, more power to you  :)

i wasn't a huge springsteen fan until XM added the bruce channel a while ago, now I probably listen to that more than anything else (except when the Nats are playing).

I Loooooooooooooooooove the Siriusly Sinatra channel.  Great channel!  (as is the B.B. King Blues channel)...

I really wish they'd make a Skynyrd channel.   A great deal of bands have cited Skynyrd as their direct influence...and their music really needs to get more publicity - some people just don't know their masterpieces.   :D

I'll have to check it out.  I saw them in concert a few weeks ago.  It was really great.

i heard Linkin Park's "Burn it Down" on the top-40 station my kids listen to when they are in the car.  On the one hand I'm happy that they are getting exposed to LP, on the other hand i'm saddened by the fact that LP is getting airplay on the same station that plays justin bieber, Gangnam Style, and Keisha.

So Ghost is apparently becoming a big deal.

Meh. They sound like a song from an especially dark episode of Scooby-Doo. Hell, they even LOOK like villains from Scooby-Doo.

Still, sort of a fun sound. Immensely goofy, but kinda fun.

I have some extra iTunes money. Any ideas on a classic metal album to use it on?

While they are some of the greatest albums ever made, they are not really metal. I'd go with some classic Black Sabbath if you don't already own them. Judas Priest had some classics and just remastered a couple as well. Iron Maiden? If you don't have any of the first 4 Metallica albums, they are a must as well as Pantera's Cowboys From Hell or Vulgar Display of Power. They are favorites of mine though. I'm not into the death metal screaming/growling kinda stuff.

Operation Ivy (Armstrong and Freemans' band before Rancid) was pretty solid.  Less full-on punk, more ska.

The Devin Townsend Project - Save Our Now

Fantastic new album - Devin's signing voice is the best in modern metal - the pop/disco mix with Devin's signature sound is genius - just listen to it

popped into Au Bon Pain this AM and the MUZAK played "Bye Bye Love" by the Cars.  Ben Orr singing.

Was a time I thought a bunch of bands would break out of Boston. "The Next Cars / Geils / Aerosmith."  The Neighborhoods were a pretty good punk band that I don't think ever were signed.  The Atlantics and the Lyres had a bunch of great songs but, when they were signed, their albums just did not get promoted.  "Lonely Hearts" and "The Pop Shivers" by the Atlantics really stack up well, and "I Want to Help You Ann" by the Lyres is terrific (emvbedded below).  there were others that were not really punk or new wave but made great music, like the Stompers (a more basic rock and roll sound pretty close to what you'd hear out of New Jersey bands), but that type of act was not signable at the time.  The gimmick acts like the Fools (Psycho Chicken, Life Sucks and then you Die) and Human Sexual Response (I want to be Jackie Onassis) got gimmick airplay, Dale Bozzio had Missing Persons, and a little later Til Tuesday (Aimee Mann) and the Del Fuegos had some success.

Help you Ann (Album Version)

Missing Persons only made it big once they went to LA though. By the way, thanks for getting this stuck in my head - anytime someone mentions that Cars song this starts playing in my head.
