Pirates "Red Up" their Alternate Uniform
« Topic Start: January 27, 2007, 11:44:48 PM »
Everytime I look at the new D-Back uniform, I want to puke.  It seems like such a rip-off of our Nationals uni.

My "2nd NL team" is the Pittsburgh Pirates and they recently unveiled their 07' alternate uniform: a jersey with majority red vest and black sleeves with "Pirates" across the front.

(*Note: Will have black sleeves)

I can't say I am excited about this one.  The Bucs have always been black and yellow in my eyes.

Will they be wearing these socks?
Maybe some golden arches on extra large pant pockets?

Have the Pirates heard of tradition?  I mean, whatever, but this news is somewhat dissapointing for me.

This is the alternate uniform so I don't think they will be wearing it everyday but still, yeah....

Things like tradition, loyalty, honor, "the love of the game" mean very little to the MLB these days.  Its more about butts in the seats and ticket sales.  It makes me sick.

Screw it....I'm going to go watch "The Natural."

There's no tradition of red in the Pirates threads. They're clutching at straws rather by saying it all ties in with the red in the bandana on the head of the pirate in their logo, which is all a bit tenuous...

It's a bit like the Cardinals adopting bright yellow vests because the bird on their club logo is perched on a yellow baseball bat.

All I can say is BARF...that looks like CRAP.  I thought the Heinz family owned the Steelers not the Pirates.

Yeah, the pirates have been all about tradition, at least as far as uniforms go :

Then came this:

Yeah, it was in gold and black -- but take the socks posted by senators2005 and make them gold/black bumblebee style, and they'd fit those late 70s early 80s Pirate unis.

Almost every team that has existed since the 1970s has some history of awful uniforms.  The Pirates have been a part of this club for a long time.

And yes, I know, the White Sox have had thier share of awful unis too, so those of us who live in glass houses shoudn't throw stones. . .

I have liked the Pirates since I lived in Pittsburgh.  Obviously, not as much as the Nationals.  But these uniforms are ugly.  They should just throw them out now.
