Donating Books?
« Topic Start: January 07, 2012, 11:59:07 PM »
I couldn't find an AAUW online accepting books. The only local booksale I could find was the McLean one and they won't take donations until May. Any suggestions? I can make a list to give away here if anyone wants them, you'd just have to pay media mail fees.

Anyone know if Burke Books is still in business? Does the guy who looks like a Tolkein character still run it?

Charitable thrift stores usually take books.  I believe the MoCo animal shelter has one in Rockville or Gaithersburg.

I'm not sure if I can part with my Terry Brooks or out of print Jack Chalker books. I could be convinced to give up the Brooks paperbacks, probably.

Stephen King novels, textbooks, Mrs. PA's James Patterson books, those should be easy to unload. The same with the non-fiction.

That would work well. I have other crap to get rid of too that's in decent shape (way too many small kitchen appliances, for instance).

At the risk of grinching your charitable impulse, don't forget used bookstores and online options.

I am fond of McKays.

And for online.

McKays moved out to Manassas.  There should be tons of "Book Donation" drop boxes near Safeways and Giants.

Paperback Swap is awesome, if you don't mind them collecting dust while waiting to be selected.

It's more "I need this crap out of my house before I move in a few weeks", although paperback swap could work well for the future. Do you store up credits when people want your stuff or do you have redeem within a certain period.

They don't expire although your account can go inactive if you have transactions for a year or so.

In Montgomery County there's a Friends of the Library book store that sells used books.  Not sure if you can donate to it or not.
do
What do mean McKays went out of busines in Manassas?!  I was just there last month!  Its in the shopping center across from the Manassas  Mall!  Not far from Flower Gallery!  There is also a small bookstore in Old Town Manassas that sells and takes old books.

Terry Brooks sez I should read the Heritage series next, so the first book is Scions I think.
