Because the typical AAAA power hitter is always a big stocky guy that can mash the minors but has trouble hitting in the pros... usually due to a very high K rate and bad plate discipline?

ALTHOUGH, Moore has show an increase in walks and a decrease in K's so far in AAA, so maybe that's a start of a positive trend.

Was odd watching Red Sox - twinkies series. So far, Jason Marquis, Matt Capps, Jamey Carroll, and Josh Willingham have played for the Twins, and Marlon Byrd for the Sox. 3 trade targets or potential free agents are playing as well (Span, Commander Cody, and Ryan Sweeney).

Most definitely a hitter's league, mostly due to the ballparks in the PCL's elevation though, not their sizes. It is much tougher for pitchers to get their breaking pitches to break.

I wonder if the As told Norris, "we trust you have good plate discipline, so we do not want you taking walks. We want to see contact from you. That is your weakness. Show you can make contact, then you can go back to a more selective approach."

That doesn't make sense. Hacking at pitches outside the zone would lead to a low BA as well as a low OBP.

I think they know he will not swing at clear balls, but they do want him to take hacks at balls on the fringe of the zone. Pitches that he doesn't think are strikes, that Pitch F/x may not think are strikes, but umps may call strikes. He has enough power to hit those pitches hard enough for them to fall in a bit.

Along these lines, I think he did not draw a walk for his first 50 PAs, then, when the other teams realized what he was doing (it got some publicity in BA, I think), they started pitching him ridiculously out of the zone, and he picked up his 3 walks.

you are right, maybe this does not make sense. I'd really like to know what is going on.

Eldred called up to the Tigers to replace Inge. Will play DH for the near future or as Leyland puts it "as long as he hits".

you are right, maybe this does not make sense. I'd really like to know what is going on.

Quite honestly it looks like he falls in with every other AAA hitter. Pitchers at that level know that walks won't get them promoted and attack hitters. When you take into account he went from the Eastern League (.236 ISO) to the PCL(.257 ISO) , his slugging isn't much better.
