The Chiefs win again and are in 4th place in their divsion.  I don't think they've been in 4th this late in the season since they became a Nationals affiliate.  And they're a mere 5.5 games out of the division lead because while they're on a 7 game winning streak, the Pawtucket Red Sox are on a 7 game losing streak.  Their division, the IL North is the best division in the International League.  The Chiefs would be in second place in any either of the other two divisions.

He's moving up fast. Seems like best pitching prospect we have, based on this year's performances. Anybody seen him?

MonkeyHit / Mr. Clean - want to start an FTP thread on Karns?  Just some basic background, stats, and links to articles on him and maybe some stat sources.  If you can find a talent evaluator's write-up like Sickels, Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, etc... that'd be great.  Take a look at the first post in the FTP thread for what we would like.

As a courtesy, don't excerpt too much from either Nats Prospect or Nats Farm Authority.  Links are OK, but NFABrian and the folks at Nats Prospects deserve the hits for their efforts and thoughts.

Zach Walters batting .333/.389/.636 with 4 Doubles and 2 HRs since promotion to AA. Unfortunately he has already committed 5 errors in those 8 games.

It's kind of time to start paying attention to Nate Karns. 7 IP 3 H 1 ER 1 BB 10 K vs a very good Salem Red Sox lineup tonight.

Over his last 3 starts: 21.2 IP 9 H 2 ER 6 BB 31 K

Potomac's Karns making case for best arm in organization

Potomac Nationals right-hander Nathan Karns is on the best streak of his career, pitching somewhat under the radar as his team looks to gain momentum in the second half of the season.

Karns has posted three consecutive double-digit strikeout performances in three straight victories, two on the road, dating to June 15.

During this amazing run, the numbers are close to astounding: 32 strikeouts in three starts over 21 2/3 innings. He allowed just nine hits and two runs with only six walks in those three starts.

He has gone 6-2 with a 2.24 ERA in 16 games and 10 starts between Single-A Hagerstown and Potomac. His record boasts 102 strikeouts and 34 walks, allowing just one home run over 72 1/3 innings.

Karns looks the part. He stands 6-foot-5, 230 lbs., and alongside Alex Meyer, arguably has the best stuff right now throughout the franchise's minor leagues.

According to team sources, Karns is hitting 93 to 95 mph and touching 96 mph with his fastball. He also features a tremendous power curve, which comes in at 83 to 84 mph.

It certainly is exciting to see what Meyer and Karns are doing and to watch to see if Karns will get a taste of Double-A Harrisburg and Arizona Fall League in the next six months.

Karns final line was 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K

Not too shabby.

Both runs scored after Karns left the game.

Niice.  Question, though: is he too old for this level?
