No tax dollars would go to pay for the construction of the facility, at a "ballpark figure" of $15 million, according to Craig Gerhart (interim city mgr). The EDA would handle financing of the project. Naming rights and other opportunities would exist.

Folks,

Feb. 14, 2012 will be an historic day in Winchester as a lot of love will be flying around and look for our city council to approve a land transfer of 12 acres over to our EDA which will open up the door for MiLB to move into Winchester!

Hagerstown Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II Bruchey has said Bruce Quinn, majority owner of the Hagerstown Suns, has told him he is considering moving the team to Winchester.

No, it's not.  I can't go to H-town for a minor league game if it happens :(

Anyone know if there is a recording of Patsy Cline singing the national anthem?   That would be so cool to play at winchester.

At least as cool as steven tyler singing the anthem at a pats game :couch:

I guess that's Crazy.

God this would suck for me!  I enjoy going to the Hagerstown Suns games, and the fact that it is a Nationals affiliate makes it that much more enjoyable.

I've had a Suns Saturday plan for a few years now and have really enjoyed seeing all the Baby Nats. And it's a fun, low-key place to see a game (except for last year when Harper was there - then it was packed!)

I hope they can work something out to stay in Hagerstown -  I'd never make it to Winchester.   :(

And they have a nice selection of beers - and Steak-on-a-Stick.

I just noticed this gem- no tax dollars, just built with bonds issued by an agency with the backing of the local government - I wonder who pays off the bond if revenue is less than anticipated?

Winchester does, of course.  Otherwise, nobody buys the bonds.

The Winchester community's ACE in the hole???

IMHO, Valley Health Systems!

A couple of quick facts ... The Winchester Medical Center of VHS has made a profit of $418.6 million from 2000-2010.  At the end of 2009, VHS had a total of $484 million for their investments and other securities.

Would not surprise me to see VHS to get involved with this MiLB project in some capacity.

But of course, Winchester City council must approve the land transfer of 12 acres on Feb. 14th.

Meeting tomorrow night at 7:00 in Jim Barnett Park Social Hall regarding MiLB in Winchester,Va! One week from tomorrow the vote will go down. It looks like there is a swell of support in Winchester to make this a reality. We'll soon know the answer.

I hope they stay in Hagerstown. I usually go to a couple of games a year. Winchester is out of the way for me, so I don't see myself going to any games there. There's nothing in Winchester that I can't get in Hagerstown or Martinsburg. Old Town in Winchester has some pretty nice restaurants, but I much prefer Market Street in Frederick. MD.
