Yes.  This, in particular, is a little too timely for comfort:

You mean like, Gio Gonzalez? Aren't they getting Gio Gonzalez?

Again, Boswell wrote a crappy piece that strikes a chord with people emotionally and they drool all over it.

I don't, there's only so many times someone can show you who they really are before you have to believe them.  For me, it's been pretty apparent (even before I followed the Nats) that the Lerners were incompetent.  This offseason is only cementing that fact further for me.
Let's hope this off season is not over yet for the Nats.

Desmond is getting his shot. Bernadina will get his this year. Espinosa is getting his. Lombo should get his. Give Stammen a whole year in the bigs. Thats the kind of " Shot" I am talking about. Being on a shuttle back and forth to Syracuse is no shot whomever the player is, that's all I am saying.

It will be hard for Desmond, Espi, and Lombo to all get their shots, hopefully Lombo has the type of spring that forces the team to make a move with Desmond.  Ian seems like a nice, hard-working guy, but I really don't see him playing SS for us long term.

That's rich coming from you.

Well, I'm not sure if Oliver Perez is signed right now so there's still hope.

Eh, it's not really a shocker that the Lerners are cheap.

I really think this team is on track to do some good things next year and in 2013.  Smart manager, good GM, good young players at several positions.  They wouldn't need much to put them over the top.  It would suck if it's cheap owners that hold them back.  I still think we can contend for the wild card even with a low payroll and cheap owners, but it sucks that that's probably the ceiling.

We should pool all our money and form an ownership group to buy the team from the lerners.

I feel bad for the Nats fan base. They should sign Oswalt, Extend Zim, give J Zimm a multi year deal, Lock up Clipp and Morse to 3-5 year deals to show the fan base these guys are here to stay... if they aren't going to make a big splash this off season.

Everything about this post except for Oswalt is pitch perfect (and others will agree about Oswalt). I just don't want them to sign a guy who might not care when you could just as easily have a guy that will walk over hot coals to play.

Boswell BASES his whole piece on the MASN money, which is a logical flaw. It's a poor piece because he focused on emotion and not on the fact that the MASN money is actually irrelevant to the low payroll.

Even with the crappy MASN contract they cleared 36 million in profit in 2010.

Spin it how you want... they have the money, and they're not spending it. Fact.

Except for all of the stud FA being signed or about to.  Enjoy the 2012 version of Paul LoDuca.

Jesus H Christ that's my point. They need to sign Cespedes and Prince but MASN is irrelevant. Boswell's piece isn't awesome, it's crappy, even if he is right about some of it.

I'm not doom and gloom about the season - I still think we will win 85+ games and are set up well for 2013.  But we probably won't get that final piece or two to push us over the top without the Lerners spending a bit more.

Never going to happen.  He couldn't buy the Cubs and he's not in on the Dodgers so enjoy Marky Mark Lerner, the shouldhavebeenaBJ assclown.
