I've seen multiple reports on MLB Trade Rumors that the "mystery team" bidding on Pujols "would need to trade an established first baseman" in order to make room for him. And there's confirmation that it's not the Yankees.

In Jayson Stark's words: "people within the sport were becoming less skeptical about reports that a third unidentified team was also in on the Pujols bidding.... The identity of the reported third team remained unknown. But people within the sport suggested it was likely to be a club that has an established, big-name first baseman it would need to trade before it could complete a deal with Pujols."

Who does that sound like?

Two names, that I would put out there and are probably available in trades - Carlos Zambrano, Cubs; and yes, his attitude and all. Second, Chad Billinsley, Dodgers; and who is thought to be available in trades. With the Nats Old School Coach - Davey Johnson -Zambrano would be straightened out rather quickly - oh yea. And for Billinsley - he would fit in rather nicely with the Nats. I'm just saying - 2 players that Rizzo could wheel and deal for..........if they are still available in trade, as indirectly suggested by their team's management's comments.......

Tigers? Move V-Mart?

I can't think of an AL team who I would say have an established 1B who needs to be moved to fit Pujols in. He's not enough of an upgrade over AG, and every other team I can think of with an established 1B has a flexible DH slot to make a move less than a must.

NL? Phillies makes sense, and Howard is a much bigger name than LaRoche. But how do you move his contract?

They're the only other team I can think of that fits the description, but like JCA, I'm not sure Howard is tradeable. Maybe if the Reds were planning on moving Votto they'd be in, or I guess the Jays and Adam Lind.
