I love it when crap gets shaken up.  As long as it's not us!

That Marlins stuff hit pretty damn close to home. This though...crazy awesome.

You don't think that Lannan is getting the job done anymore?

Probably means it will cost at least 7 years for Fielder. He'll be 500lbs by the time that contract is up

Say this for Pujols' sense of loyalty... his new team has exactly the same color scheme.

I guess not having a TV deal will be our new excuse for never pursuing top FAs.  Very convenient, since we can blame it entirely on external factors :?

you just keep on rolling

LANC will come in and be like oh see LOD/LAC ... Lerners are great people.

I'll applaud them when they do it, but as you said it's expected.

But it is a valid excuse.

Angels are getting 100-150 million for TV. What are the Nationals getting?

He's got to be close to that now.

Cardinals screwed up big.

smartest move they could make- the tail end of that contract would kill a team without a DH. They made him a huge offer, he took more, but I think their fan base won't turn on ownership over it.

That depends on your perspective.  Sure it's a valid excuse if you believe that a TV deal is the difference beteween profitability and destitution.  Some people here aren't so naive.

You took a perfectly valid post and turned it into an agenda driven piece of drivel.

Congrats.

I wonder if we'll be having this discussion about RZ in a couple years.

when our deal is ~25 and other teams are north of 100, logic seems to dictate that they can field a higher payroll team

probably, but it's a lot easier to take a step back and say cards ownership made the right move, than it will be when it happens here

Eh, I guess huge market, eventual move to DH and it makes sense that the Angels could outbid the Cards. Pujols still playing when he's 44, though, lol.

But it is a valid excuse.

I'm not saying it's an excuse for spending now, but I hate the TV deal and I'm very worried about how that will affect us long-term. The Angels getting a huge TV deal, one would assume that other NL East teams will be raking in cash if they aren't already.

Look at college football and what has happened with conference realignment and the shift of power entirely to the SEC -- all because of ESPN and television money. C.R.E.A.M., and television deals are turning into the most important in sports. Meanwhile, we are locked into a crappy television deal with MASN.

Surely you concede those are the two extremes of the equations.  TV deals happen to be a big difference between the haves and the have nots.  We are a have not.  While the contrast is not as extreme, it's still significant.

there's another thread on pujols, ESPN says STL only offered him 9 years at less than $200 million, he would have been the 4th highest paid 1B had he signed.

I'm all for trading for Morales right now. They need middle infielders. We got some to trade. Detwiler, Lombardozzi and someone else

i'm not - he couldn't come back from his broken ankle last year.

yeah that's bad.  i'd hate for my team to come up short on an offer for a target 8)

but in all seriousness, that sucks for the cards.
