I thought you were a stat guy- one pitcher giving you a serious jump in era or whip late in the season?

I also traded for James Shields, giving up Phil Humber, so I went from something like Beckett - CJ Wilson - Humber, Vargas to Felix - Shields -  Beckett - Wilson.  I had gone low on innings, so running about 1/3 of a season with that combo gave me something of a shot.  The big jump I was looking for was wins.  ERA and Whip only needed to move from mid pack to top.   Big trade that burned me was trading Ellsbury and Kotchman for Tex, Gardner, and Farnsworth (again, keeper bargains for short term help).  Tex stunk 2d half of year, was outhomered by Ells, and I ended up needing a bit of average help.

The A's asked for Logan Morrison or Mike Stanton as part of a package for Gio Gonzales.

Wow, they must be insane.  Big Mike Stanton needs to stay in South Beach.

Kemp had a better season than Braun.

Yeah, he did.

Twins sign Doumit. Cleveland re-signs Sizemore.

Tampa trades John Jaso to Seattle for Josh Lueke. Now Tampa gets to deal with having an alleged rapist on their team.

Couldn't have the Nats being the only one.

The key piece of the Hammer-HRod-Corey Brown trade...

More win for my fantasy team! I now have a shot at 3 starting catchers - Chirinos, Jaso, and AJ!

As per the wise JCA's instruction...

Broxton to the Royals on a one year - 4 million dollar deal.

Good low risk/high benefit deal for the Royals.

Broxton siging with KC is surprising. I thought he would go somewhere where he could close, like Toronto or the Mets.

Now deal Soria before his arm gets sore-ier.

That makes sense, especially if they try to give Crow a shot at the rotation.  I just think they are holding onto Soria too long and he may decline by the time KC is good.

mlbtr says the Mariners are going after Fielder, if there's a team that is the perfect fit for him, it's seattle.  They desperately need hitting, they can move him into the DH role eventually, and they have plenty of good seafood restaurants (assuming he eats fish).

Bobby Valentine to be the next Red Sox manager.

I hope they know what they're doing.  From the outside looking in, it looks kind of like a circus in Boston.

Looks like a pretty bad hire to me. But you would think they'd have a good reason.

Why?

Valentine was a very successful manager in the States and Japan. He's got a weird stigma attached to him, but I find it undeserved.

I'll admit, it's a little dumb. But I just don't like him as a person, seeing him on tv and such.  But mostly I feel like the Red Sox needed someone stable after the circus that last season ended up being, and Valentine is/was a fiery dude that shoots off his mouth a bit much and butts heads with GMs. But thats all my opinion, I'm just not a Valentine fan.

The fake mustache incident has a lot to do with it.

BP says his hitting will play neutral in Nats Park, negative in Seattle (would have lost about 5 HR this season).  This was in the context of value as a fantasy player.

How many jobs has Valentine sought in the last few years and been turned down every single time???  There's got to be a reason for that.
This hire is a joke, I can only hope they're only doing it to be a stopgap until John Farrell is available  :|

As I recall, Valentine didn't take the Marlins job because he didn't see eye to eye with Loria on how to run the team. Can't really blame Bobby V for that. I sure wouldn't want to work for Loria.

He couldn't replace the entire staff.
