Needed a set-up/closer in Melancon.

Bowden thinks the red sox are crazy, they are counting on Aviles as the everyday SS for this year and management doesn't think Inglesias will be ready.

Why didn't they just keep Lowrie?

Needed a set-up/closer in Melancon.

wasn't clear they were getting Bailey, either.  The current plan is to shift Bard to the rotation as well as possibly Aceves.

Truth is, I would have thought Detwiler and Desmond for Scutaro would have worked better for both teams.  The Sox could use Detwiler in the pen, and Scutaro would have been a nice leadoff / 2d baseman for the Nats.  Desmond has options, so the Red Sox could send him down if they weren't pleased with him.

 looks like he's heading to free agency in two years

I wonder how Tigers fans are reacting to them signing Fielder?

Wilson Betemit to Baltimore. I like Baltimore's lineup, but their rotation is still a giant question mark.

Posted this in the stickee MLB thread - Cody Ross, 1 yr, $3MM to the Red Sox.  will

with Ryan Sweeney in right at least until Kalish is healthy and displaces them.  I had kind of wanted both these guys for the Nats to split CF this year because there were no attractive CF candidates for the leadoff role we needed filled (don't say Upton).  From their favorable sides, these guys together have a .350 OBP, with Ross having nice righty pull power pop.  Would have been an inexpensive option, to displease the "buy every superstar" crowd, but effective.

Here's the FG link discussing the move.

Whoever signs Cody Ross is going to cause me to buy a hat and shirt of that team.  As such, please don't let it be the Red Sux.

Red Sox it is, classic look for you.

Looks like I'm going to some early Red Sux-Os games in Brawltimore this year.

I understand you liking Baltimore's lineup, but I hope it is not because they just signed Betemit.

Of course not. I like it overall, although I will admit to having something of a fancrush on Betemit.

So Domonic Brown is now behind John Mayberry, Laynce Nix, and Juan Pierre on the depth chart. Got it.

darn, kind of hoped we could have signed Pierre.  he could have been a good CF/Lead-off patch for a while.

i don't like pierre all that much, but on a minor league deal it would have been worth a shot
