Wow...my MacBook Pro was weeping this evening, now I know why.  RIP, SJ, I will never forget loading my first 5 inch floppy into an Apple 2+ for the first time.  It took about an hour to load VisiCalc and D-Base+ back then.

Hope everyone remembers to lavish this much praise on Bill Gates when he dies

:nts:

Yeah, I'll share my touching stories about installing Team Foundation Server and paying $250 to troubleshoot transport issues with Exchange 2010 with some genius from India.

But in all seriousness, this:

You know, for as much as I dislike Windows, Gates has been one of the world's great humanitarians.

And rest in peace to Jobs. Loved Gates' statement.

You realize that has nothing to do with Gates, right?

In any case I could provide a littany of Apple horror stories, but I said I wasn't going to threadcrap here, so I'm not.

Fox News has the headline "iMourn" on their website.

I expected to see "Jobs lost on Obama's watch."

I listened to Jobs' commencement speech at Stanford from back in 2005 on the radio this morning.  My wife and I did everything we could to keep it together during the part when he talked about how death had shaped his life.

It's worth your time if you haven't seen/heard it.  Here's a link to the video and the transcript.

Luddite here.  The only Apple product I've ever owned was an Apple IIC.  I don't own a smart phone, never downloaded a tune from I-tunes. It is incredible that 10 years ago, that would not be so exceptional.  Apple was thought to have permanently blown its huge first to market advantage in the area of desktop and portable computing and to simply be a niche company preserved so that Microsoft could have some defense against anti-trust.

Technically, Microsoft did bail them out by investing $150 million and committing to make office for mac, so there is some truth to that

yeah, Apple made a huge mistake by not trying to attract outside software developers.  Jobs initially wanted to own the whole system.  He realized the error of his ways eventually.
