We are a .722 ball club when we score first, and a .256 club when we get scored on first!

Now, it makes sense to have a higher winning percentage when you score first, but this seems a bit extreme.

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 77th win, each season:

2005 - 16th September (148th match of season)*
2011 - 24th September (157th match of season)
[2007 - finished 73-89]
[2006 - finished 71-91]
[2010 - finished 69-93]
[2008 - finished 59-102]
[2009 - finished 59-103]

*This was the last of a four-match winning streak (5-1 at San Diego, Patterson over Peavy)...Nats would lose their next four after that, so a Nats win tomorrow means we gain ground on the '05 Overachievers.

Three games under .500, two games ahead of the Muts, and about 100 games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles...who fought to keep baseball out of Washington for about 30 years.

Cardinals just tied the game in the bottom of the 9th with a bases loaded walk.  Marmol is pitching for the Cubs.

Wild Pitch - Cardinals win.  Marmol still pitching.

...the same Marmol the Nats beat at Nats Park earlier this season on a defensive lapse - Werth scampering home with the winning run (although Marmol looked so lost out there that Werth probably could have crawled home).

Whatever...no wild-card-clinching party for the Braves and their Red-Sox-Nation-Lite fans in our house.

I'm 99% sure I was likewise, and received heat for it at the time. But it was definitely a tiny crowd back then supporting Wang.

I would be extremely happy with another 10 game improvement.

80 wins = unbridled joy!

81 wins = crapting my pants?

Seriously.  79 wins should happen.  What a great year!
