sorry about tonight, but we were due.

We were picked to finish tenth in the conference.  It's all gravy from here anyway...

Nothing like Junior league hockey played out doors to fire you up!

Watched the Beanpot last night.  BC 3-BU 2 in OT.  I don't like Milner, the goalie for BC.  Kreider is impressive, though.   BC carried the play most of the night, but BU caught BC up ice a few times and scored 2 off the power play.  The BU goalie (Milram or something like that) was terrific.

My favorite blog has started up again:  Bracketology.  Good breakdown available on USCHO.com but here's the sum total of Jason Moy's assertions:

St. Paul
14 Minnesota vs. 1 Ferris State
11 Merrimack vs. 5 Michigan

Green Bay
13 Miami vs. 4 Minnesota-Duluth
9 Northern Michigan vs. 7 Denver

Bridgeport
15 Ohio State vs. 3 Boston University
12 Michigan State vs. 6 Massachusetts-Lowell

Worcester
16 Air Force vs. 2 Boston College
10 Union vs. 8 Maine

I wouldn't mind the Bridgeport regional at all...  I'm close enough to attend so I'm thinking about it!

ECAC top 4 advance to Atlantic City.

I honestly thought Yale had finally got on a roll when they switched goalies, put in a freshman O'Day in the top line, and moved O'Neill down to the 2d line to generate scoring, but having to go to OT 3 times in two weekends just wore them down too much.  I thought they would have been very dangerous in the tournament and had hopes for winning the conference.

I think that if Union or Cornell wins the ECAC, then only 2 teams advance to the NCAAs.

A friend who is a die hard Harvard (and BU) hockey fan says that with all their ties this year (I think 10, plus two OTs last weekend), they were on the fringe of having a spectacular season with just a little more goal scoring.

I think Cornell has to win to make the NCAA's.  Union SHOULD be in regardless.

Hard for me to see just one ECAC team.  Union beats Cornell in the final, Cornell makes it.  Union wins the tournament and Cornell is knocked out in the first round, Cornell still might make it as the second ECAC.  Harvard or Colgate wins the tournament, Union and the winner make it.

PWR doesn't really favor Cornell right now and they aren't ranked high enough to make it on merits (IMO).

I think the only way we get two from the conference is for someone other than Union to win the ECAC tourney.

as a colgate fan, after the way the season has gone, you can probably discount the second scenario

I'm just hoping a couple of eastern teams survive to the frozen four. Last year was ridiculous.  I thought is was awful to send BC out west when I think they were #2 in the tournament and were the defending champs.  At least BC and Union are close to home.

Union representing the ECAC!  I wish I has a reason to be in Bridgeport :(  That is about the only time anyone anywhere wished they were in Bridgeport.

Union did have a big win too.  Nice to see the representation from the ECAC but really nice to see Union get their first ever NCAA tourney win.

I'll be watching both the Union and Cornell games tonight.  Let's get TWO ECAC teams into the Frozen Four!

Sorry, Minty.  With an ECAC and a CCHA team already in, and a WCHA guaranteed out of the West, there is a decent chance that four different conferences will be represented in the frozen four.  All it takes is for BC to beat UMD. Not easy, but BC is hot and the game is in Worcester.   Hard to believe this is the first time an ECAC team advanced since 2003.

watched the two cornell games. both penalty fests. the latter was a bit more even. the michigan game was insanely one sided.

I had not realized just how big Cornell was this year.  I had only seen them early on, when I guess they were hurt, and I was drinking and did not have the sound on in the bar.   Hard to believe I recognized anything   I think there is a rant up thread about that day at work.

As for Union, I think they were a bit lucky not to have Welsh pick up a 5 minute major / game misconduct / suspension for the next game on his boarding call.  The replay showed clear contact with the guy's head.  Forearm to the head.  Admittedly, the guy was going down already from the prior hit, so the ref would have thought that was harsh, but by the book he gets kicked out.  They pulled that crud against Brian O'Neill last year in the same building and killed Yale's momentum v. UMD.  If I were a Lowell fan, I'd be outraged.

Agreed.

Couldn't capitalize on the major.  :(
