Are we defending Doug Slaten here?  He is a left handed specialist who doesn't get lefties out with any sense of regularity.

He actually was credited with giving up two hits.

Yes, but the idea of DIPS comes into play here IMO. He hit a grounder to short, that's an out 99.9% of the time.

If Peacock comes in with nobody on, the game is 3-0 right now. Slaten has been beyond terrible this year, how do you defend his outing tonight? Wow, 0.1IP and a 6 WHIP at that rate, what a beast.

Confirmation bias? You think he's terrible, you see what you want to see. Let's see what his WHIP is after one third of a freaking inning, that's smart. I'm telling you what happened. A single, a grounder to short that's almost always an out, and a strikeout. That's a 1 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K inning most of the time.

No we hate all pitchers and position players who give up runs as much as position players who fail to score them. Once the evening passes, people return to their previous preconceptions.

How about sending Doug Slaten home?

Oh and FYI, the Nationals have blown more saves than any team in baseball.

I would not be opposed to sending him to the glue factory or a good old fashioned stoning.

I think this has less to do with our bullpen than it does our offense, to be totally honest.

It's not like we haven't seen Slaten before. Wasn't his WHIP over 2 earlier in the season?

he's a left-handed specialist in the sense that he throws the ball with his left hand.  That's about it.

just got back from the game.  a couple thoughts.

1.) Nats fans suck.  There weren't more than 15 k for that game.  Big-time pu**ies.  oh no - it's drizzling

2.)  Strasburg is legit - lives up to the spotlight like an ace.  he should be counting the days until he's a FA.

3.)  Johnson is an old dottering fool.  how do you throw Peacock into the fire like that when he's not a reliever??????????????  2 men on and Kemp up.  to Peacock's credit he would have ended the inning without damage with a real shortstop.

4.)  and 4 - ian Desmond sucks.  he should have had 2 errors this evening.  he can't even knock a ball down and keep it from going into the outfield.   he is a horror show at SS and should be let go right now.  there is nothing to salvage.  he's too old to keep making the same mistakes.

5.)  with a real manager and Short Stop Strasburg would have won his first game back.  if i'm him i'd be f**ing pissed.

Lefties are hitting .310 against him, righties .393.

...and he's still on the roster...and playing!!!
