Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 59th win, each season:

2005 - 9th August (112th match)
2011 - 18th August (122nd match)
2007 - 1st September (136th match - snapped 7-game losing streak)
2006 - 3rd September (136th match)
2010 - 5th September (137th match)
2008 - 23rd September (157th match) - final win of season (finished 59-102*)
2009 - 4th October (162nd and final match) - final win of season (finished 59-103)

*One match (Marlins home, 25th September) was rained out and not re-scheduled.

---

The announced attendance of 19,508 was the lowest at Nats Park since the Rockies opener on Friday 8th July...Mystics stunk the joint out big-time, losing 81-62 to Minnesota...United drew at Chicago 1-1.

40 games left in the year!

17-23 to match my preseason prediction.
0-40 to match Linty's preseason prediction. ;)
10-30 to match last year's record.
22-18 to finish at .500.

I fixed it. But it's pretty dumb anyway.

I call him something else. But the moderators probably wouldn't allow me to say it, given that they edited a post I made once where I used a form of the same word to refer to Cub fans' use of the word "Cubbies" to refer to their team.

The article about the game in today's Post is interesting—it says that Werth noticed Mattheus stretching in the dugout between innings and asked why. Mattheus said he felt a little tightness, so Werth told Davey Johnson about it. I guess they didn't like his warmup pitches when he next took the mound.

Had to miss the game tonight. Just watched the highlights. Nice to see Espy had 2 hits. Good job Nats nice Curly W!
Werth had two hits too.  I was at the game and somehow I called the Flores home run, and also a double play to get us out of trouble.  Great game!

Linty predicted a 59 win season?  10 games worse than last year?

I think most people predicted 70-75 wins.  They may beat that by a handful of games.  To me, with the progress they've made in the minors and with the young guys at the ML level, that's a pretty successful season.  77 wins would be maybe a 'B' grade considering the state of the team from last year.

Yes, Linty predicted 59 based on terrifying underachievement, Jim Riggleman getting fired, and the team bouncing back to win 80 in 2012. It's on page 1 of the "post 'em if you got 'em" thread.

I guess he was right about terrifying underachievement (Werth, maybe count LaRoche) and Riggleman quitting.  But we still hit 59 wins with 40 games left.  Ha.
