You betcha. Going to Viera just to see him.

My guess is he gets called up before September. He needs to keep it going in AFL, kick some butt in Viera, and keep it going at Harrisburg (where I think he will start.)

I predict the Bryce Harper Era starts next June.

Just like Strasburg.

While I still don't think we'll see Harper before September, he's going to make things interesting next spring.

I think a lot depends on how the team is doing- if they are in the thick of it after the all star break and he's tearing it up in the minors, I could see him called up, otherwise, why waste the year?

That would be one scenario. The other scenario is if the team is out of it and they need to get him ready for 2013, then they bring him up without the pressure of being in a playoff race. If he's ready, then he's ready.

If we're out of it, i'd rather not burn years in his prime for teen years. As far as I'm concerned, we have him for a certain window, and I'd like that window to correspond with winning or his prime.

Opening Day OF'er.

a Morse-Werth-Harper OF sounds pretty good.

Then all we need to do is sign Reyes or Rollins so we have a legit leadoff hitter.

What gives you fan boys the impression Harper has "touch[ed] every level of the minor league system”? He has to prove himself at AA and AAA. Highly unlikely we see him in the majors until September 2012.

Agreed.  It would take an extraordinary domination of AA for us to see him sooner.

isn't the AFL supposedly made up of the best minor leaguers? If we're in the hunt for a wild card and a boost to the outfield might put us over the top, I somehow see Rizzo reevaluating those statements

Really? I have to believe you either missed Rizzo's comments entirely or are being deliberately obtuse.

Well, Col. Klink was certainly obtuse.  Maybe not deliberately, though.  ;)

I know what he said, but if they need a bat and have a shot at the first playoff berth since they moved here, I think they reconsider. Look at Tampa Bay- they made it by one game- if they missed by one, how much second guessing would they get for holding Jennings down as long as they did? If you want to take every Rizzo utterence as gospel, you're free to do so, but I'd like to hope he can adapt as the situation warrants

Harper takes a month or two to adjust to each level; his first month in the major leagues is not likely to be dominant. His second and third months, sure...

Not a virtue Rizzo is known for, you can't squeeze water from a stone

He was starting to hit AA when he got hurt. He might start at AA next spring but won't stay there long.  Some of us thing he will start AAA and rake and be up by June.

This kid is kind of a freak so I don't think he will follow a predictable schedule.

video of harper's monster oppo-boppo yesterday:

http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=19951035&topic_id=&c_id=mlb&v=3&tcid=tw_video_19951035
It wasn't oppo but it sure was boppo. A total bomb.

I briefly heard on the MLB Nework that it will be airing the AFL all-star game on Nov. 5 but couldn't find any info on its website.

Purke got rocked again.  1 inning, 4 hits, 3 er's.  But he lowered his era to a cool 29.70
