Nats are 2-3 all-time on 5th July:

2006 vs Marlins – L 9-18
2007 vs Cubs – L 2-4
2008 at Cincinnati – L 2-3
2009 vs Braves – W 5-3
2010 – did not play (Monday between Mets and Padres home series)

Cubs are 4-2 all-time on this day:

2005 at Atlanta – L 1-5
2006 at Houston – W 1-0
2007 at Washington – W 4-2
2008 at St Louis – L 4-5
2009 vs Brewers – W 8-2
2010 at Arizona – W 9-4

Ramon Ortiz :lmao:

If we lose to him :?

His numbers in AAA this season were mediocre. 99.1 IP 115 H 47 ER 12 HR 20 BB 81 K (4.26 ERA, 1.36 WHIP)

But then again Detwiler wasn't great in AAA either though he's been better as of late.

I would have given incredible odds against ever seeing Ramon Ortiz start a game in Nats Park again.  Great guy, but hope we smack him around hard tonight.

Has he ever started a game in Nats Park?

Oops, he appeared against us in 2007 for the last time, and that in Colorado, so I should amend my statement to be in Washington.

It would be great if it were Ramon Ortiz vs. Livo. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SFN/SFN200210220.shtml

Anyone else think this is Detwiler's last chance to show he's a MLB starter.

We could've had Madison Bumgarner, Jason Heyward or Rick Porcello instead.

True, but how long should the "chance" be?  1 game?  No to that.  It should be a bit more of an extended audition to be able to tell.  5, 10 starts maybe?

I'd rather see Milone get the 5-10 starts than I'd like to see Detwiler. But since he was such a high pick I guess it's his.

He was a Bowden pick so maybe he gets a shorter leash from Rizzo.  But I don't mind giving him a shot.  Maybe he can stick in the bullpen once they trade Coffey.

I think I remember someone saying Rizzo made the picks during Bowden's time. But still you're probably right about that.

10 starts?

I'm not saying give him 10 even if he gives up 8 runs a game the first 5, but you have to give him a bit of time to adjust to major league hitters, to find his comfort zone.  1 is OBVIOUSLY not enough, plenty of pitchers blow up in a single game and then pitch a series of really good games.

Better chance the Nats win or Casey Anthony is found innocent?
