Dempster has been scratched from today's start...Casey Coleman is now the pitcher.

Ugh... this lineup looks so much worse without Morse.  It's a good thing he worked out.

Since we're not facing Ryan Dempster, here's video proving that Ryan Dempster is 100% awesome:

it wouldn't have killed them to call up marrero for a few days while morse rested.

For those going today: Capital Weather Gang's NatCast has 'Temps will be near or just above 90 for much of the game. Hydrate. Slight chance a shower or storm pulses through late' with 20% chance of precip.

Once again, no Metro track-work today, but I'd budget a bit more time getting there and back due to the other festivities.

---

Nationals are 3-3 all-time on the Fourth:

2005 - lost at home to Mets, 5-2 (the beginning of the end for the '05 Overachievers who were 50-31 going into that match)
2006 - won at home over Marlins, 6-4
2007 - won at home over Cubs, 6-0
2008 - lost 3-nil at Cincinnati [only time Nats have been on the road on the Fourth]
2009 - won at home over Braves, 5-3
2010 - lost at home to Mets, 9-5

Why is Zim getting the day off?

probably because he hasn't had one since coming back.

Ah, see, you're making the mistake of thinking the Nats want to win today's game.

They're going to have a crappy pitcher on Tuesday too.  A big part of why people come out to the ball park is because of players like Zim.  On the days when you know you're going to have a lot of people there and attention paid to the club, you need as many of your stars out there as possible, IMO, unless there's a legit reason why they shouldn't be (which is entirely possible), but "he's just getting a routine day off" isn't one of them on a day like today.

Seriously. You'll have plenty of first timers at the game today. I think he has to be hurt or sick.

One thing I liked about Riggs is he never gave Dunn/Zimmerman days off at home since those are the guys the fans came to see. Not often will managers make decisions totally based on giving back to the fans, so I always appreciated that. I would have been pretty bummed if at my first Nats game I saw a bench player instead the biggest star on the team.

and who gives a crap about going out to seeing certain players.  if you're a fan of the team you go no matter what.

apparently he's sore, so it's the right move to sit him.  hopefully it's just one day.

1- Fukudome RF,
2- Barney 2B,
3- Castro SS,
4- Ramirez 3B,
5- Pena 1B,
6- Byrd CF,
7- Soriano LF,
8- Soto C,
9- Coleman P

1- Bernadina CF,
2- Cora 3B,
3- Espinosa 2B,
4- Nix LF,
5- Werth RF,
6- Stairs 1B,
7- Rodriguez C,
8- Desmond SS,
9- Zimmermann P

Moving Werth and Stairs down gives us hope that DaveyJohnson is not Joe Gibbs II.

"Ryan Dempster will not make his start [today],” Quade said. “He’s been under the weather. He’s got a little hip and back issue. We expect him to pitch on this trip, but we are going to back him off.” Dempster, who has also been dealing with a gastrointestinal disorder for several days, spent the night in the hospital on Saturday and received IV help, as well as tests to determine the nature of his back pain. Dempster will either pitch later this week or make his next start in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

This is a REAL chance for the Nationals to SWEEP ALL 4 GAMES and start a REAL run for the PLAYOFFS. Cubs pitching is horrible! The Nationals have GOT to put runs on the board!

Werth back in #Nats lineup but Morse still out. Davey said Xray showed "hairline fracture" in Morse's forearm but MRI didn't.

again why not just call up marrero in the mean time?

Cubs are a crappy team overall - 35-50, second-worst record in NL, third-worst in MLB. Let's just hope they don't find the Nats to be 'good for what ails them'.
