Phil is back and they have spent the first 20 minutes (and counting) talking about '70s baseball, with a focus on George Brett. :bang:

Phil Wood said that they receive a lot more emails than telephone calls. You should be able to call in and get on the air.

Philwood paid tribute to former Washington Senators' Roy Sievers, who died recently.

*Command* is the ability to *locate* a pitch  - throw it where you want to throw it whether in the strike zone or not.  *Control* refers to throwing it in the strike zone (no matter where as long as it's in the strike zone).  These two guys are idiots.

Nats Talk calls for umpire Joe West to retire. They say that there is no mandatory retirement age for umpires.

I think FBI agents have to retire at 55.

  • Platoon - not just a movie, a baseball obsession
Umps often hang out at CCSP.  When West is there, he fills the juke box with country stuff.  Not that the place doesn't play too much country already.

Phil Wood calls for MLB to change to electronic calling of balls and strikes. Mike Wallace wants umpires to continue to suck at that job.

"Considering 14% of balls and strikes calls are wrong, umpires are wrong 21-22 times per game on average."

Way out of character for Wood. You know, ol' school and all. Good for him. For me, electronic balls/strikes would make baseball the perfect game. I like to think it's just a matter of time since technology is really highlighting the ineptitude of umpires.

The fact that he's not dropped dead from a heart attack must have the entire scientific/medical profession questioning everything they've ever been taught.

On Saturday, Phil Wood mentioned that Nationals Park is one of very few MLB stadiums that has a live organist, rather than prerecorded music cues. Matthew Van Hoose, musician-in-residence at American University’s performing arts department, has played the organ at Nationals Park since 2010.
